2016 NFL Season

In "lol Pro Bowl" news, the AFC needed to replace all three QBs voted to the team (Carr and Roethlisberger due to injury, Brady due to the Super Bowl).  Alex Smith and Andy Dalton were added to the team.

Mariota and Tannehill were immediate cross offs due to late season injuries.  Luck just had surgery.  Tyrod Taylor and Trevor Siemian both declined, opting instead to get surgeries of their own.  The AFC is still searching to fill that last spot and they're down to their 11th string choice.

They need to get rid of the damn thing. It's a joke and a waste of time.

I'm sure the Texans will be trying to this offseason.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't likely to tune in for the skills challenge on Thursday night.  Absolutely loved that part of the old Pro Bowl weekend and it's the best part of NHL All Star weekend as well.  The game itself can sod off, though.

This paragraph from the official NFL.com article about the skills challenge did make me chuckle, though.

Perhaps that is why the skills challenge was one of the headlining aspects of a "reimagined" All-Star weekend in 2017. The league returned to an inter-conference matchup, eliminating the "legends draft," which took place each season between 2013 and 2015. Then, a highlight leading into the actual game consisted of watching Jerry Rice bungle his selection process, picking a horde of pass rushing specialists and interior linemen for what ended up being a flag football-style showdown.

Its too bad that Charlie Whitehurst is currently a free agent, because that spot should belong to Clipboard Jesus.

Well, at least if the Pats win the whole thing their fans will have a delightfully awkward moment of conflict when the inevitable buddy-buddy photo of Brady, Belichick, and Trump is taken at the White House.

You think that will be awkward? I think anything with Roger Goodell will be 100x way more awkward.

Watson going to Cleveland or SF would destroy his career.

I think that's a bit of a myth. Not every QB can go to a ready made contender and/or a team that's very well run.

Stafford went into an 0-16 shitshow and he worked out OK. Obviously it plays a factor in their development, but I don't buy that any team is a career killer, all NFL teams have world class facilities and coaches at the peak of their fields.

What I do think is unexplored is sitting a 1st round QB for a couple of years and giving him that time no matter what. We saw it with Rodgers but not all teams have the luxury of having Favre at the same time. I'd love to see more teams do it and sacrifice short-term pain for long-term gain. That's why I wouldn't be against taking Eli's successor at 23 this year if there's someone the team likes for the taking.

I think the issue isn't good, young QBs going to bad teams it's them going to dysfunctional organizations.

Also, besides Rodgers there were also the two years Rivers sat behind Brees. Eli was expected to back up Warner for most of his rookie year. Though I forget how many games that season he was actually on the bench for. Palmer was Kitna's backup his rookie year.

I can't remember a Super Bowl I've been less enthused about than this once since I started following the NFL. The Patriots have annoyed me to the point now where I don't want to watch and hope that they lose, I just don't want to watch them at all.
