Liverpool are in advanced talks with Bayer Leverkusen over a deal for Germany Under-21 midfielder Emre Can. The 20-year-old has a £10m release clause in his contract and Liverpool have indicated they are willing to meet that figure. The deal had appeared to stall over the weekend because of the player's personal terms. But talks are progressing more smoothly now and all parties are hopeful a deal can be concluded in the coming week.

Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has signed a new four-year contract.
