Am I missing something, because from the few years I've been following this sport, Hodgson doesn't seem like the caliber manager that should be leading the English national team.

You can blame him for playing Henderson too deep, moving Sterling out of position to accommodate an overweight, out of shape, out of form Rooney, and then playing Sterling (and Welbeck) too wide.

Drag Rooney and Welbeck off for Lallana and Barkley, give Henderson license to move forward and press the ball up the pitch and move the defence forward as well.

He sort of is. We've moved our MOTM against Italy out of position to accommodate him but we're getting nothing extra out of Rooney and Sterling is struggling to get into the game.
