Yes, it's a huge cock up from Akinfeev but it's got nothing to do with his technique. There's no way Akinfeev could take that into his body, it's too high. It's a terrible mistake but it's just a case of him taking his eye off the ball too early.

He talks like it's been coming but both goalkeepers have had trouble with the slippery surface and although Akinfeev's handling hasn't been great, he's had to deal with the ball moving around and then bouncing infront of him.
