Should girls be allowed to play Football?

Nine year old scored 25 touchdowns

I saw this article on Yahoo and I'm not really sure what to think. On one hand I'm like good for you girl you show em! On the other hand I know it's more likely that she could be hurt. Although it seems she enjoys it. So if boys can do it why cant she? I'm not sure how I would handle this. Curious what you guys think.

Wait...a tackle football league at the age of 8/9? That seems a little young, no?

But that is really cool, my only concern would be her getting crushed by boys almost 100 pounds heavier than her. I think if the girl and the parents are ok with it, they should be allowed.

I think pop Warner starts at 5 here.

If they want to, hell yeah, but it's going to be hell once puberty begins and players start getting a lot bigger, especially compared to the women.

I think it's fine for anything short of high school, and I know there have been female pro leagues, but my big concern, and this is not sexist, would simply be their safety when it comes to mixed games in high school and beyond, short of a woman being the punter or kicker. That's a pretty big difference, and when you consider the smaller non special-teams players are at least 5'8" 200...I really think it would just increase the chance of injury if she were a running back or wide receiver or anything else.

girls yes, women no. I assume there's a woman's league she can play in, if not there should be. but the idea of a woman playing a contact sport with men is worrying. 1) she's going to get hurt by people much bigger than her sooner our later. 2) it's going to be uncomfortable for men that then have to tackle a woman. I wouldn't be comfortable doing that.

I don't understand why they shouldn't be allowed to. Prior to puberty girls and boys are much more closely aligned, if anything girls are often bigger than boys of the same age. Once puberty kicks in then you would need a girls and boys league.

I don't see why people would be that 'shameful' about tackling a girl. If you stuck a guy who is 100 pounds lighter than anyone else on the pitch he'd get tackled at every opportunity and nobody would have a problem with that, even if he kept getting regularly injured. It'd be his fault for not bothering to bulk up or find ways to work around this problem.

So if your opposition are clearly fielding a smaller player then why not use this to your advantage?
