Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is forced into two changes for the visit of Zenit as Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Countinho - both goalscorers in the 5-0 weekend win against Swansea - are cup tied. Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson replace the pair, with Luis Suarez set to revert to the lone striker role. For Zenit, manager Luciano Spalletti opts to make just one change to the team that won the first leg 2-0. Veteran Sergei Semak is drafted in to stiffen the midfield as striker Aleksandr Kerzhakov drops to the substitutes' bench.

Chelsea make four changes from the side that won in Prague, with John Terry, Oscar, John Mikel Obi and Victor Moses coming in. Manager Rafael Benitez is true to his pre-match word, resting Frank Lampard and Branislav Ivanovic.
