It was so open, a couple of different results and the table could have been so different. Interested to see how England react and bounce back. Cymbols
Moved to Newport in the summer, decided to get stuck in and bought a Dragons season ticket. Now, the Dragons, bless them, are not very good. Five games into the season, only one win, and that was an away game up in Galway, Ireland. But dyou what, it is a fucking good time. Sit by some die hards who are really nice (and regularly read the paper I write for), get access to the season ticket holder bar which has character, and something to do in my spare time in a new city. Went along to see the Dragons development team play the Scarlets development team tonight. Only about 1,000 people there. Did we win? Quite definitively not. Was it a good laugh? Fuck yes.
Cymbols
Quote Cardiff rugby squad isolating in South Africa due to Covid cases Cardiff's hopes of flying out of South Africa on Sunday are over after two positive Covid-19 cases were confirmed in their squad. The club confirmed one of the cases is suspected to be the Omicron variant that sparked travel restrictions on flights from South Africa to the UK. A Cardiff statement said: "PCR tests undertaken last night have returned two positive results." However, Welsh rivals Scarlets are on the flight both teams were due to take. Cardiff's playing and coaching staff have "returned to their hotel to isolate". The statement added: "Cardiff Rugby continue to work with the South African Rugby Union, the Welsh Rugby Union and public health authorities both at home and abroad to decide the next course of action. "The club are also continuing to work with all relevant authorities to secure the travelling party's return to Wales when safe and appropriate. "Everybody concerned in this highly challenging situation would like to thank their families, friends, colleagues and the wider rugby family for their many messages of concern and well wishes. "No further comments will be made at this time." South African government guidelines say individuals who test positive for Covid must isolate for 14 days from the day of developing symptoms, not the day of the positive result. There has been no confirmation that either or both of Cardiff's cases are symptomatic. Cardiff were in South Africa to play in the United Rugby Championship, but all the tournament games in the country over this and next weekend have been called off. Been a bit of a disaster from start to finish this - not sure how widely publicised it has been outside of the regional circles though. Didn't seem like a good idea to add South African teams to a domestic league which already featured Welsh, Scottish, Irish and Italian teams (domestic being used very loosely already) in the first place. Originally, the South African teams were going to play their home games in Italy, and it didn't seem like the best idea to move their games to the Southern Hemisphere at late notice. Because of this, Cardiff, the Scarlets, Munster and Zebre all went over there, and oh yeah, covid happens again, the games get cancelled, and all four teams, and a bunch of officials, get stranded. The Government do fuck all to help, so the teams have to come up with a solution. During that delay, Munster and Cardiff end up with positive cases in their ranks, and now are indefinitely stuck in South Africa. The Scarlets have at least gotten out, and it isn't immediately clear what has happened to Zebre. What a shambles.
Bobfoc
The Six Nations is back tomorrow. I think France will be the team to beat, but this could be a high-quality competition if recent form of the other nations carries over. I wouldn't be surprised to see any team except Italy make the top two.

I live in/grew up in Newport - one thing I've learnt about watching the Dragons over 15 or so years is that you go to games knowing full well they're likely to lose. They had some really strong characters back when the regions were formed but they're not great these days. Rodney Parade is still always a good laugh regardless.
Cymbols
Yeah learned that lesson a fair few months ago! But yeah as you said, the day out is much better than the performances. As an aside, can we cancel the Six Nations?

I'm not all that surprised, Wales are fairly crippled by injuries and haven't been great for a while. Not to take anything away from Ireland though - they look pretty good 👍

Canadian Destroyer said: Does anybody know someone who would make for a good podcast guest to give casual sports fan an intro to rugby? Potentially maybe. What sorta person are you looking for - former player, journalist, referee? In any case, I'm glad you've bumped this threat, because for the second World Cup in a row, Spain have been kicked out, having actually qualified this time around. Turns out their prop, Gavin Van den Berg, is erm...not actually Spanish. Fundamental flaw you have to say. Tried playing the residency rule card, but it seems as though the South African born fella has not been living in Spain for three years consecutively. Elsewhere, I've got one game left this season as a Dragons season ticket holder (missing the final game to go to Milton Keynes of all places on a jolly). I last updated y'all in November when we had yet to win a home game. Six months later, home win count currently stands at...zero! Fair to say it has been a slog. Fun though, for the most part.
