France could do more damage to Spain's defence than Portugal are doing today, because they have more resources. While Portugal has Ronaldo and Nani, France has Cabaye, Benzema, Ribery, Menez, Giroud, Ben Arfa ( when he feels like ). That's why I said the game would be more interesting.

All a mute point as they played shit. I also struggle to see any of those players as vastly superior to their Portugese counterparts, whilst Ronaldo wipes the floor with them all.

It's not about being vastly superior, It's about not being one-dimensional.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand the problem with playing 4-6-0 given the way Spain play?

It would increase man-marking, but the midfielders would have to run a lot to get to attack, and soon they'll tire.

Not really since at least 4 of the 6 would press forward anyway, even if there were a striker on. It's barely any different to when Man Utd play Rooney up top on his own, since he drops deep a lot but no-one says anything because he's a striker by trade.

No, but we're from a nation of 4-4-2 enthusiasts so it's not surprising archaic analysts don't see the point of it. Barcelona effectively play a similar 4-6-0/4-3-3 hybrid at times with Messi/Pedro/Sanchez/Fabregas/Villa all dropping deep and out wide at times. Not to mention the difficulty of being one of two central defenders and neither of you have a man to mark - nor do you know whether you should venture too far forward to mark the false 9 (in this case Fabregas) and risk getting left high and dry or do you risk staying back and allowing an extremely talented footballer a chance to get the ball at his feet between the oppositions defence and midfield lines.

But it's no big man/little man combo up front now, is it?
