Who is everyone's other nations? I cheer for Australia obviously, but then England as well as Denmark due to family coming from there.

I do cheer for any small nation as well. Only teams I am happy to see lose are America and China. Whenever there is a choice I go for whoever isn't them. Except Michael Phelps who for some reason I suddenly have decided is mega knobbable.

I am just rooting for all Great Britain athletes plus Agnieszka Radwanska, who's already out of the women's singles. Actually I like to see the Irish do well too, not that they tend to. I think they have a really good women's hurdler and that's about it.

I just like the obscure countries to do well, the ones who have no chance of finishing near us in the medal table.

Actually, yeah. I've found myself actively cheering anybody who threatens a gold medal for America, China or Russia so far now I think about it.

I hadn't, but that's just ridiculous. In fact it's beyond it. I don't know how the Daily Mail continues to be allowed to function sometimes.

Also, the Mail on Sunday today referred to cycling gold medallist Aleksandr Vinokourov, a 39 year old who is one of the most recognisable names in the sport and somebody who even has attracted mainstream attention due to his drugs ban a couple of years ago, as "a nobody from Kazakhstan" on the back page. Simply because he isn't Cavendish or Wiggins.

So you cheer for Australia, US, China, etc? These are countries who will finish...nowhere near GB in the medal table.

Well I well and truly enjoyed my Olympic day yesterday, Japan v Morocco was so so but lifted by the sheer number and volume of Japanese fans, while Spain v Honduras was immense, particularly in the second half. So much bite for an Olympic game and after Honduras hit the post/bar ten minutes into the second half it was just Spain attack after Spain attack for the rest of the game. Muniain looked a totally different player second half just ghosting past players, heroic defending all round from Honduras.

Usual overabundance of Mexican waves, but otherwise the atmosphere was fantastic, with decent showings from all fans including Honduras.

Our only realistic medal hopes, as in the only one where the country is really expecting is in Boxing. We've got a few talented men but the only gold we can hope for is in the Women's 60kg with Katie Taylor, who was also the flag bearer and an international footballer!

Hurdler you're talking about is Derval O'Rourke I think, don't think she'll win a medal but it'd be nice if she did, she grew up not too far from me and was in the same secondary school class as my sister.

Not really supporting any other nations, just the underdogs in the particular event I'm watching at the time.

I missed the memo where Australia, USA and China became obscure countries.

Also, you're aware that GB finished above Australia in 2008?

Yeah was referring to O'Rourke as regards the Irish hopes. I remember she's won medals at the Europeans before.

And didn't we finish above everybody bar USA, China and Russia in the medal table in 2008? We did extremely well.

Guest mr. potato head

Hey people with knowladge of volleyball, why does one player in each team play in a different colour to all the others?

That's the libero, a defensive specialist. Or so I've been led to believe by TV.
