Chris2K
This 6 runs or 5 runs debate looks to be a pretty hot issue, whether the law is locked in or up to interpretation. Here's my personal interpretation, spoilered for length: Spoiler 2
Chris2K
85 all out against Ireland, at Lords. There's coming down to Earth with a bump, and then there's this abomination.
Plubby
Everybody sucks at batting, what a great Ashes this is looking to be
MDK
Just watching the highlights now. Good Lord, the Sandpaper Boys are going to turn us over.
Chris2K
And then the best seam bowling side in the world show up and everything is right with the world again.
MDK
Just got a notification on my phone. 38 all out? What happened?
Chris2K
Perfect swing bowling conditions and two people who know how to use them: Chris Woakes - 6 for 17 in 7.4 overs Stuart Broad 4 for 19 in 8 overs.
MDK
So we changed the settings back to easy. Got it.
Adam
Seems a bit of a Banter Test match.
Chris2K
Fun fact: The two wicket-keepers in the match made a grand total of zero runs between them. Surely that has never happened before in a game where both keepers have batted twice.
Admin Lineker Posted July 31, 2019 Admin Report Share Posted July 31, 2019 Archer is out of the squad for the first Ashes test.
Admin Lineker Posted August 1, 2019 Admin Report Share Posted August 1, 2019 Australia all out for 284. Smith racked up 144. We had them on the ropes for a little while but totally let them off the hook.
Chris2K
It was going so well. You'd think they'd watch Smith's innings and realise they need to play carefully, so I'm predicting they don't and we're 158 all out.
Chris2K
The Australians are in a hilarious position. Steve Smith is obviously captaining the side in everything but name, because Cricket Australia's punishment was that he would never be allowed to be captain again after his ban ended. Tim Paine is just doing nothing except standing next to Smith whilst he sets all the fields and decides the bowling options. Meanwhile, Tim Paine isn't scoring any runs and isn't even the best wicket-keeper in the side, however they can't drop him because they need him to go out and flip a coin before every match and pretend that he's in charge. Even if he "drops himself" there's nobody obvious to take over the captaincy unless they go left-field with someone like Siddle or Lyon. And all the while Smith goes along, scoring runs and making all the decisions of a captain, as if he never got a punishment in the first place... Admin Lineker Posted August 4, 2019 Admin Report Share Posted August 4, 2019 How the fuck have we let them get to 487-7?
Plubby
Down a top-2 bowler would be the main reason
Chris2K
It's certainly a main reason, and can be applied to how Australia were 122-8 and got to 284. The other reason, unfortunately, is Steve Smith being the best test batsman of this generation.
Gazz
Only the England test side could snatch defeat from the jaws of victory after having a team at 122-8 on the opening day.
