Penalty to Spain. Obviously the referee is taking cards out of his pocket at random and not bothering to look what colour they are. No way is that only a yellow if it's deemed a penalty.

So... let's calm down here and think about this:

Paraguay get a penalty, it's saved. A minute later Spain have a penalty, score it, have to take it again for anally-retentive reasons (technically correct though), that's saved. Then they should've had ANOTHER penalty from a foul in the scramble for the rebound, which is handily ignored. Replays later show that if the referee was going to make the Spanish take their penalty again for player encroachment into the box before the ball is kicked, that happend to a FAR higher degree for the Paraguayan penalty which was ignored.

More drama in three minutes than in half an hour of Eastenders~!

True. If anything, Spain have been a victim of inconsistency. No other referee in the tournament has given a penalty for it.

True. If anything, Spain have been a victim of inconsistency. No other referee in the tournament has given a penalty for it.

No, but they've disallowed a goal for it.

It was a penalty, and technically by the rules it was a retake, but I've NEVER seen a retake ordered for that (especially it was like, three players having a foot inside the box). The Paraguayan one was a far more serious encroachment, but it was ignored.

The decisions you criticise him for were all correct, it's the hideous inconsistency that make him a shit referee. Plus the Spanish penalty should've been accompanied by a red card, not a yellow.
