No offense to Red Wing fans, but your team is old, slow, overpaid, and championed by a goaltender who is at worst a step up from the AHL and at best fucking bipolar. If you guys last another round I'd have a parade.

I heard people saying the same thing last year. People have short memories I guess :P

I'm pretty sure it's just wishful thinking actually

No it's just Canucks fans. Most of them forget they have a team before the playoffs then talk trash to teams that are actually good.

Sean is one of the few good ones out there, but he can go a little crazy sometimes.

Nah, it's not just Canucks fans.

I hate the Canucks with a passion... but I still think that Detroit's on borrowed time. I think they'll beat Anaheim, but I also think that the Ducks are going to wear them down. Whoever faces them in the Conference Final is going to look like a monster when they run through the Wings like Hulkamania.

...and by "whoever faces them", I clearly mean the Chicago Blackhawks.

Vancouver was dominating the game but had about a four or five minute period where they fell asleep, missed every check and assignment, and let Chicago tie the game. Very sloppy finishing that almost cost them a game they had no business even coming close to losing.

That's pretty much how it's been for Chicago though. They didn't do a whole lot of dominating in the first round, and they probably won't in the second round either... but if you fall asleep, even just for a minute, they'll make you pay for it.

Also, since I meant to reply to this earlier, but was on my phone.

Meh...I'd rather have a glorified AHL goalie with 3 cup rings than a pair of sisters as my main scoring threat and the Pillsbury Dough Boy as my checking line center.

It's funny that you talk about the pair of sisters we have as our primary scoring threat, for several reasons:

First, it's not like your team isn't made up of a bunch of soft euros who can dangle and then turn the puck over with the best of them.

Second, it's nice, actually having people on our team who can score.

Third, it's obvious you don't watch Canucks games at all. When your information on our team comes mostly from reading blogs, just shut up.

Also, I assume by the Pillsbury Dough Boy, you mean Kyle Wellwood.

First, the Canucks do not have a checking line, showing how much you know about our team. The Canucks had a checking line early in the year, with Kesler and Burrows, but it's been split up for at least 30 games. But since you don't watch Canucks games, I wouldn't expect you to know that.

Secondly, Kyle Wellwood is hardly a defensive specialist, but then since you're not a real hockey fan, it doesn't surprise me that you'd figure because he was on the third line, he was on our checking line. That's how they do it in NHL09 for the PS3, so that must be how we do it, right?

Thirdly, I'd like to compare Kyle Wellwood's performance this year to several notable Toronto Maple Leafs.

There aren't any postseason statistics for those months, Plubby.

You never said anything about posteason.

Thirdly, I'd like to compare Kyle Wellwood's performance this year to several notable Toronto Maple Leafs.

Then you only provide examples from April. That is way too small a representation of your sample size to be credible.

Don't leave holes if you are going to be a prick about it. Clawson is entitled to his opinion of Wellwood, even if your stats imply that he single-handedly drove the Canucks to the playoffs.

Under each stat category was listed the word "postseason". So thus I did infact say something about the postseason.

This is the only season that really matters. It doesn't mean shit if the Leafs were great in January, they're not playing now, and Kyle Wellwood is. I never implied that he single handedly drove anyone anywhere, but he's been a much more valuable asset in the playoffs than any Leafs player has been.

How is any of that relevant to Clawson's opinion of Wellwood? You're just belittling him and hoping that he folds and admits that it somehow makes him wrong. Hardly a sophisticated technique for debating hockey.

Your team is doing well, no need to be a sore winner about it.

The Kyle Wellwood I watched yesterday is not the same Kyle Wellwood that we let go on waivers. He actually plays two way hockey for the Canucks. The coaching staff has done a great job with him. Chicago made the game entertaining in the third period, but Wellwood created a turnover and started the rush that led to the game winner.

I'm assuming the blogs that I read that Sean is talking about are the segments on TSN and CBC that discussed Fats Wellfed as being a strong defensive center for the Vancouver Canucks.

Alas, I know nothing about hockey and thus cannot make a comment. Sorry guys.

Two things that bothered me about the Wings/Ducks game...

1.. the Brown hit. Interference? Depends on whether the ref's felt the puck had been gone long enough. But a major? They're assessing penalties based on the outcome, as opposed to what they should be for, which is violation and intent. Just, brutal...

2... Franzen with a flying knee strike to Jonas Hiller. The goal was good, but there should have been a penalty for the unneccessary knee to the goalie's head. The amount of crease violations that Detroit has gotten away with this season is just bloody ridiculous. Franzen could have stopped or skated out of the way, but instead he barrelled into a young goaltender. That should have been a penalty as much, or more, than the Mike Brown hit.

Getting cut by you guys was a big wake up call for him, as was getting sent down by us. He knows he has to earn his spot. Like Jason Blake, he can be a monster, but every once in a while he needs to be sat down as a healthy scratch to wake him the fuck up.

I heard the same things post game and I really wonder sometimes how much of the Canucks these guys watch. The Canucks have two dedicated defensive specialists they send to maintain leads and kill penalties in Hordichuk and Johnson, they have Kesler and Burrows, and they have the Sedins, who can play the wall and stick check about as well as anyone, who are all better defensively than Wellwood. Granted, his performance last game, with some key pickoffs and some great first man passes, supports what they're saying, but that is hardly an accurate assessment of him on the whole.

Also, Don Cherry calling Antropov "Frankenstein" was fucking funny.

All of this is quoted for truth.

1. Next time I'd suggest the passer doesn't spend fifteen seconds admiring his beautiful pass, and watch where he's going instead.

2. Bullshit move by Franzen there, and he get's away with it. Literally bowling a fucking goalie over and he doesn't get a penalty? Same thing happened to Tim Thomas last night, and there was a penalty called on the play. I know referees are going to call things differently...but there should be some sort of a standard here. Poor Hiller was rammed right back into his net, his mask comes flying off. Just a classless move by Franzen IMO.

Also...I hate Lidstrom. That is all. :shifty:
