2008 MLB Season

Frank Thomas is going back to Oakland.

Also, I am already sick of the Blue Jays playing this way. They have this good offence on paper, but they continue to just be inconsistent at producing runs. It's really making it hard for me to watch.

I'm giving them through the weekend series in KC before I panic. We'll have Rolen back in the lineup, and with guys like Mac, Scutaro and Inglett seeing time we need him just to have another bat who can get the ball out of the infield. Rolen's power could have a big impact, in that with Rios, Wells, Rolen and Stairs you'll have four legit 25+ home run threats. They need one of these guys to really step up and put the fear in opposing pitching. With the 5-tool talents of Rios and Wells, I'd say the latter two are better candidates to get the green light to start swinging more aggressively. As long as they can take tonight and at least two of three in KC, they won't have lost the season in April.

EDIT: Just to be clear they won't have LOST the season in April if they can't, but it'll definitely suck and be time to start taking a real hard look at what's wrong with the team.

It's got a lot to do with their inability to play 100% against the lesser teams in the league. For who knows what reason, we always seem to do well against the heavy hitters. I wish our schedule could consist entirely of games against Boston and New York.

I'm not surprised we can't beat Tampa Bay when we trot out last night's lineup. Eckstein, Stewart, Hill, Wells, Stairs, Barajas, Zaun, Diaz, Inglett? That somehow looks like a decent team?

"Rios calling off the second baseman, and he'll make the catch...the Blue Jays win it 3-0...(music starts up)...for Pat Tabler, Sam Cosentino...hold on...hold on...hold on...(music stops)"

Rios made the catch for the third out in the bottom of the ninth, but the umpire called a balk on Ryan. The batter went back to the plate, Gibbons came out and got ejected, Boston rallied but was shut down in the end.

Here's a question. If a batter hits a ball into the outfield, and is thrown out going for second, could it still be considered a perfect game for the pitcher if he gets the other 26 batters out? It's technically a hit, but there was never a baserunner/home run...

If he gets thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double, how is that a hit?

Admittedly I'm going off video games here, but I always thought it had something to do with him making it to first safely (thus the hit).

Toronto has been really streaky so far and has not had a ton of hitting, but Matt Stairs is putting together another good season. Also, Scott Rolen has been pretty solid since joining the team.
