Ok so the 2007 NASCAR season is set to begin and ALL SORTS of storylines are taking shape:

Robert Yates Racing sweeps the front row:

David Gilliland and Ricky Rudd swept the front row of the Daytona 500 for Robert Yates Racing, the last time one team owner had his cars on the front row it just happened to be, you guessed it, Robert Yates. Gilliland probably won't get a ton of help in the race since he is a rookie but look out for Rudd, he very well could be a serious threat to win the whole darn thing.

Toyota Enters NASCAR, Not Doing So Hot:

Toyota is making its first Daytona 500 start and things aren't looking so good. Along with Michael Waltrip's problems (look below) they only have two teams (Dale Jarrett & Dave Blaney) that will start the Daytona 500 guaranteed. The rest will have to try and race their way into the Daytona 500 and so far its not looking good for several teams, including Brian Vickers & A.J. Allmendinger.

4 Crew Chief's Suspended:

The crew chiefs of Matt Kenseth and Kasey Kahne were both suspended for four races while the crew chiefs of Scott Riggs & Elliott Sadler were both suspended 2 races. All four cars were found to have performance enhancing modifications not allowed by the NASCAR rules. Kenseth & Kahne's rule infractions were found after Daytona 500 qualifying so they will have to start at the back of their Duel 150 race tomorrow. Since the infractions were found before qualifying on the cars of Riggs & Sadler then they can start their Duel races from their assigned spots.

Michael Waltrip in HOT water:

It looks like new Toyota team owner Michael Waltrip might be missing the Daytona 500 but not because he didn't qualify. Before qualifying his car was found to have an unknown substance in the intake manifold. NASCAR took the manifold and allowed him to qualify his car with a different manifold, but following qualifying NASCAR the car and impounded it. They were going to go through it with a fine toothed comb. Upon starting the car they once again found the same substance (which has recently been rumored to be JET FUEL of all things). They have now suspended Waltrip's crew chief indefinitely and they have also removed his "Chief of Competition" from the track grounds. They have apparently torn the car's motor apart and are not allowing anyone without clearance within 50 feet of the car itself. It is expected that Waltrip will be suspended from the next few races for this infraction, an announcement is expected at anytime.

Drivers in Bold will start the Daytona 500 because of the team being in the Top 35 in Owner Points in 2006.

Drivers in Bold & Italics are locked into the race because they were the 3 quickest teams in qualifying that weren't already in the Daytona 500.

The driver in Bold & Underlined (Dale Jarrett) will start the Daytona 500 by virtue of being the most recent NASCAR Nextel Cup Champion not already guaranteed a spot in the race.

With that being said, the two highest finishing drivers in each Gatorade Duel that aren't already in the Daytona 500 via owner points will earn a starting spot in the Daytona 500. If one of those drivers happen to be Boris Said, Sterling Marlin or Johnny Sauter (the three locked in on speed) then that will open up a spot for the next fastest driver who wasn't already in the Daytona 500. Only 3 other drivers (Jeremy Mayfield, David Reutimann and Mike Skinner) have a chance to get in on speed if Said, Marlin or Sauter get in via the Gatorade Duels. If Dale Jarrett races his way into the Daytona 500 via the Gatorade Duels then Bill Elliott will get the Past Champions Provisional meaning he would start the Daytona 500. Everyone else MUST be one of the first two cars that aren't already in the Daytona 500 in their Gatorade Duel otherwise they do not make the race. Teams in danger of NOT making the Daytona 500 are below:

00 David Reutimann Domino's Pizza Toyota (1st Speed Alternate)

36 Jeremy Mayfield 360 OTC Toyota (2nd Speed Alternate)

23 Mike Skinner Bill Davis Racing Toyota (3rd Speed Alternate)

55 Michael Waltrip NAPA Auto Parts Toyota (Assuming he isn't suspended first)

39 Regan Smith Ginn Resorts Chevrolet

4 Ward Burton State Water Heaters Chevrolet

15 Paul Menard PEAK/Menards Chevrolet

84 A.J. Allmendinger Red Bull Toyota

34 Kevin Lepage Detoxify Brand/Makoto Sauces Dodge

37 Bill Elliott Huddle House Dodge (Will make the race if Dale Jarrett races his way in the Gatorade Duels)

83 Brian Vickers Red Bull Toyota

78 Kenny Wallace Furniture Row Racing Chevrolet

13 Joe Nemechek CertainTeed Chevrolet

71 Frank Kimmel Fast Track Driving School Ford

49 Mike Bliss BAM Racing Dodge

04 Eric McClure Hefty Chevrolet

30 Stanton Barrett Bad Boy Power Drink Chevrolet

27 Kirk Shelmerdine Lilly Trucking of Virginia Chevrolet

72 Brandon Whitt Dutch Quality Stone Chevrolet

74 Derrike Cope Royal Administration Dodge

58 James Hylton Retirement Living TV Chevrolet

09 Mike Wallace Miccosukee Gaming & Resorts Chevrolet

So, any questions?

Ok, so an update on Michael Waltrip.

His crew chief was fined $100,000 and, along with the VP of Competition, suspended indefinitely. Michael's team was also fined 100 driver and owner points. A NASCAR source has stated that the substance inside the motor was a PART of Jet Fuel, not actual Jet Fuel itself. It is very likely that Michael Waltrip is gonna fire the crew chief that was suspended. It's also been said that apparently Toyota has warned its 3 manufacturer backed teams that Michael Waltrip's team has used up 2 of its 3 strikes and the next team that does ANYTHING like this will lose its company backing.

Yeah, Michael Waltrip is in DEEP DEEP shit.

Favorite to win? TONY STEWART! The man is a beast and could very easily win everything he enters this year at Daytona. He already won the Budweiser Shootout and his Duel 150 race. He is also entered in the Busch Race Saturday (which he is the two time defending champion of by the way).

Other possible winners?

Ricky Rudd. He's been fast the entire time during Speed Weeks. Don't be shocked if he is fighting for the win.

David Gilliland. See Ricky Rudd.

Jeff Gordon. He came out of no where to win his Duel 150 race. Could he win his 4th Daytona 500?

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Everyone knows this guy will be tough to beat at Daytona.

Jimmie Johnson. Don't EVER count this guy out.

Kevin Harvick. Seems to always end up starting near the rear at Daytona but he always ends up at the front.

Long shots you ask?

Matt Kenseth. He was strong last year at Daytona before being punted by Tony Stewart. He also raced all the way to the front of his Duel 150 after starting at the back. A sign of things to come?

Michael Waltrip. Despite all the controversy this man can still drive a race car at Daytona as he proved by racing into the sports biggest race.

Juan Montoya. He was doing really well before having problems in his Duel 150. Can he pull a huge upset Sunday?

Yeah, that's my thoughts. Anyone care to share what they think?

6. 19 Elliott Sadler

7. 9 Kasey Kahne

8. 38 David Gilliland

9. 13 Joe Nemechek

10. 40 David Stremme

Well, it started out looking very forgettable. The Busch brothers show was nothing short of making me sick. I can't stand those two, they're extremely wreckless. The race got good and it was on! I was pulling for Truex most of the way, car was fantastic and he got caught in someone else's mess. The ending was fantastic. Thrilled for Harvick because he is a very good guy and racer. This also gets him out of Dale Earnhardt's shadow now and allows him to become his own driver. Proud to be a Harvick fan since the beginning. Nothing will ever top race 3 at Atlanta in 2001, but this was a very close second :D
