What Did You Watch Today?

I watched A Ghost Story last night because Will Oldham/Bonnie 'Prince' Billy was it.

Unfortunately, Casey Affleck is also in it. - But he spends most of the film under a literal sheet being a dumb ghost. Which is an absurd visual.

It had a good concept (man dies and becomes a ghost and haunts his own house). But the execution is just a bit off. I'm all for pretentious, artsy and absurd filmmaking but it didn't have enough heart about it.

Hereditary: Dunno what I think of this. I think I like it? However much you can "like" something so relentless tense and unsettling. Definitely think I enjoyed the first half more than the second.

Isle of Dogs: I loved it. Surprised by just how sweet and how much heart it had, likeable characters, beautiful visuals. Usual Wes Anderson style and stuff too which I generally am a fan of.

Movie was terrible.

theres a pie eating scene that lasts TEN FREAKING MINUTES! Ten minutes, fork clanging off plate, nothing else happening.

I'm okay with long drawn out scenes where little happens. Sometimes. After all I like Twin Peaks.

But it got way overly into itself and trying to be deep.

I don't mind them either. Not trying to compare it - I haven't even seen the movie - but I love long, quiet, slow-paced scenes. The Coens were very good at that. They make me focus on small details I could have missed otherwise and they relax me. Then, of course, the gruesome happens, but that's neither here nor there.

Lady Bird ❤️

The whole movie is great but these are two of my favourite moments.

Spoiler

When Lady Bird puts Lady Bird in quotes, so Julie puts "Julie" in quotes.

The football coach directing the play. "The white lines are music... the white lines are music."

Watching Evils of the Night, basically a mid-80s horror soft porn with 30 year olds playing teenagers and a tacked-on alien plot featuring Julie Newmar, John Carradine, Tina Louise, Neville Brand, and Aldo Ray. Good lord.
