Montreal is looking like shit compared to the other Canadian teams.

Honestly, I have friends who are fans of each respective Canadian team and they all say the same thing. "Calgary is looking like shit..." or "Vancouver is looking like shit..." or "Edmonton is looking like shit..."

That said, as an objective fan of Canadian hockey (I root for each and every one of them, but I do root for some more than others) I'd have to say the Habs are looking better than the Oilers despite their acquistion of Pronger.

Domi AND Bertuzzi? Somebody think up a witty name that personifies the violence that line contains.

A Murder of Crows.

It's the best I've got. Would work better if the Leafs were named the Crows. But all the good names have been taken by hockey or other sports "Murderer's Row", "Wrecking Crew"...

You could always rip off Halo and go with "Double Kill".

God bless Domi. A tough enforcer who can actually, get this.... play! Forget Domi just being on the checking line, you throw him out there with Sundin for a few shifts and hell fit in extremely well, give a good hard nosed presence that will be surely lacking on the first line now. He's no Gary Roberts (fuck, nobody is), but hey, he'll keep on doing what he's been doing and do it well. And he'll continue to push more Leafs merchandise than any other player. Domi IS Leaf hockey. It doesn't matter if he's C rate player, the guy bleeds Maple Leaf Hockey and nobody puts more heart into playing like Tie does. Domi will retire a Leaf, he wants to. He took a big pay cut just to stay with the team and hang his hat at the ACC. And I hope they hang his jersey rafters, because he deserves it. No Leaf has gone balls out more than Domi has during his time with the Leafs.

Free agent Khabibulin joins Blackhawks

The most coveted goaltender in the free agent market has finally found a home, as veteran netminder Nikolai Khabibulin has signed with the Chicago Blackhawks.

It is a four-year deal worth $27 million US.

"When we began this process, we targeted Nikolai Khabibulin and Adrian Aucoin as the two main players we wanted to sign," said Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon.

"Not only did we accomplish our goal in signing these players, but we were also able to sign Martin LaPointe and Jaroslav Spacek. Along with Jassen Cullimore, Matthew Barnaby, and Curtis Brown whom we signed last year we feel that we have really improved our team."

Khabibulin, 32, helped lead the Tampa Bay Lightning to their first Stanley Cup title in 2004, posting five postseason shutouts and a 1.71 goals-against average.

Just told them they shouldn't be so negative about him and that he's sick of hearing people saying this team is going to be shit even though they were all crying for them to get younger a couple of years prior.

Also apparently Allison is getting frustrated with the Leafs being hard asses over his medical but he's agreed in principle with them so let's hope it doesn't boil over.

Unrestricted free agent forward Paul Kariya has signed on with the Nashville Predators, TSN has learned. The deal is worth $4.5 million US over two years. Kariya played nine seasons with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and last season with Colorado. He was taken by Anaheim with the fourth pick of the NHL entry draft in 1993 - the year the expansion Ducks came into the league.

Maple Leafs sign Jason Allison

Canadian Press

8/5/2005 5:24:37 PM

TORONTO (CP) - The Maple Leafs signed unrestricted free agent Jason Allison to a one-year deal Friday.

The former Los Angeles Kings forward has been out of hockey for some time. A neck injury and concussion sidelined the Toronto native for most of the 2002-03 season and the entire 2003-04 campaign.

Allison, 30, set career highs in the 2000-01 season, with 36 goals and 59 assists in 82 games, ranking third in the NHL in power-play points, fifth in points and seventh in assists that season.

In his last full season in 2001-02, Allison ranked first in the NHL in power-play assists (32) and second in assists (55).

Allison has led his team in points on four occasions, three times with Boston (1997-98, 1998-99, 2000-01) and once with Los Angeles (2001-02). He played in the 2001 NHL all-star game and won back to back gold medals with Canada at the world junior championships in 1994 and '95.

Allison has played 486 career NHL games for Washington, Boston and Los Angeles recording 137 goals and 288 assists, with 365 penalty minutes.

He was originally a first-round choice, 17th overall by Washington, in the 1993 draft.

You guys are excited about signing Jason Allison?!?!

Anyway, with Khabibulin gone, who is left out there now? Is Sellane a UFA? Bondra? Belak?
