"Hit Or Miss" question

There's an older version of the New Found Glory song "Hit Or Miss" and one thing kinda bothers me about it, there's a sample at the start of an old movie clip and I can't for the life of my figure out what it means. This version is off the "Nothing Gold Can Stay" album, so it makes sense I suppose, but what movie is it from:

Person #1: It's like the mist it what's pretty you know, all gold and silver.

Person #2: Mm-hmm.

Person #1: Too bad it can't stay like that all the time.

Person #2: Nothing gold can stay.

Now the first person sounds younger with a southren accent.. I can't quite make out whether or not it's a guy or girl. The second one is older and is definatly a guy.

that's The Outsiders, 1983. Person #1 is Ponyboy, a boy. Person #2 is his best friend Johnny.

The IMDB says that 1 is Johnny and 2 is Ponyboy.
