Bloc Party are horrible, why on earth would someone recommend them? Eurgh.

Anyway, I'd highly recommend anything from Funeral For A Friend (Juno, Escape Artists Never Die, and Rookie of the Year being particulary popular).

I'm no Bloc Party fan, but FFAF are both god-awful and totally unlike anything he's asked for.

I'd say check out some stuff by Team Sleep, Chino's (from the Deftones) side project, whose cd coinicidently came out today. I heard a few of the tracks at aol.com and it sounds pretty good. That is, if you're a Deftones fan, of course.

If that doesn't tickle your fancy, check out Future Leaders of the World. It's not hard, but it's not like soft rock either. Instruction too, check that band out.

All I could think of right now, but I might think of more and I'll edit if so.
