NFL 2024

Recommended Posts

If you go back and look at the games the last few years where the Chiefs won mostly due to a backbreaking late penalty, it's almost never ticky tack.  Like yesterday, they're often clear penalties that come down to a player doing something boneheaded in the heat of the moment.

Mahomes/Reid and Brady/Belichick comps are obviously going to keep happening as the Chiefs' legacy grows but really they were completely different players and coaches with different styles - all very effective but not that much to compare other than them all being great at their jobs.

One thing I think is comparable, for lack of a better term, is the Choke Factor.  There's an intangible pressure to playing these teams and closing the deal.  Players get caught up in the moment (the Bengals with a backbreaking final drive penalty twice now, Dee Ford the last year before the Pats finally passed the baton to the Chiefs), coaches overthink basic things (a couple of the Bills and Ravens losses to the Chiefs, multiple Pats SBs).  Even if you get off to a big lead on them we see teams inexplicably opening up the one path to let them back in.  And if it's a one score game, there's just this inevitable feeling that you're gonna lose and you just hope to not be the guy that makes a mistake.

Not sure how else to explain it.

Hey now the Ravens' losses to the Chiefs have almost all been because of coaching overthinking things less than players making boneheaded mistakes.

It's why when Likely's toe was out last week I almost exhaled since it saved us from what was going to be a catastrophically bad 2 pt conversion play.

It's very much like our losses to the Pats. Not calling the timeout when Cundiff is rushing out for the FG, getting blown away with the Pats trying to hide which TE was eligible, etc. It's just repeated coaching errors. Refs haven't screwed us against either of the dynasties that we've come up against.

Gotta tell ya folks, its a lot of fun to see your team pay a QB the richest contract in NFL history, and then watch Sam Darnold do something he hasn't been able to do.

Nick Sirianni remains an overrated head coach with terrible decisions. Saquon should've caught that pass on 3rd down, but fucking stupid to call a pass play there. Wasted over 40 seconds. Game would have been over before that TD.

Giving the Falcons those extra 40 seconds was just stupid. Terrible decision. And then to not put any pressure on a QB who can't move at all? Somehow even worse.

Yeah he had all day back there! Like I know people like to laugh at Cousins a bit but you give him time like that and he is going to get it done
