Summer Transfer Window 2024

Recommended Posts

Chelsea in talks to buy 19-year-old goalkeeper Mike Penders from Genk.

At this point I'm assuming that someone was handed a GK shortlist and mistook it for an instruction to 'buy all these players'.

Seems like a great choice for Atleti's style of play.

I'm approaching the point where I'm less saddened by Chelsea's (lack of) squad management, more numb to it.

Fulham and Tony Khan paying pretty much the same amount of money for Emile Smith-Rowe, a guy whose played all of 500 minutes of Premier League football the last two seasons combined, as what Arsenal just paid for thee most in demand defender this summer is pretty much the perfect encapsulation that he has no fucking idea about how to run a football club.

Pretty much just wasted all of their Palhinha money on an average attacking midfielder with injury issues, who might become above average. It's shocking.

Exactly how involved is Tony Khan in signing players?

Maybe it's not Tony, but perhaps Fulham are just trying to operate off the same 'American Owner Transfer Meta' that Chelsea's owners are.

I've not completely pinned down what this 'meta' is, but buying players without any care for them being massively injury prone seems a big part of it.

Isn't it £27m for Smith-Rowe, and £42m for Calafiori? I may have read it wrong. It is a lot of money for someone without much football the last two years, but then he did have a really good season when he came through into the first team before that so he clearly has the ability to be a top player.

By his own account, very involved. Whether that's true or not, sure.

Arsenal paid £33m, plus potentially only £4m in future add ons. Fulham paid £27m+£7m more in promised/guaranteed add ons. The fees are almost the exact same in the end.
