Admin Lineker Posted January 27 Author Admin Report Share Posted January 27 Maidstone are on the cusp of knocking out Ipswich out, live on BBC One. That would surely be the mother of all cupsets for at least the last couple of decades, should they hold on!

lanky316
It's about the same as Harlow Town beating Leicester in 1980. It's a massive result, and I feel slightly better about Stevenage failing to win at their artificial pitch now. We won't be the shock of the tournament thankfully! Adam
When was the last time a team from the sixth tier got to the 5th Round? I can't remember any going further than this, Lincoln and Sutton were both a league above when they went on runs a few years ago.
lanky316
Blythe Spartans apparently did in 1978, a handful of conference national sides have done it but you're right, Lincoln at the moment are the only team to have gone a step further than that. There's a couple of potential ties that could see Maidstone do the unthinkable and go as far as Lincoln which would be amazing. Teams like Coventry aren't going to be much harder than going to Ipswich and getting a result.

DavidMarrio
Routine win that really. Norwich scored from a corner and scored a screamer but really we should have won by more. Bradley and McConnell both played really well and nice to get minutes for Trent/Szoboszlai/Robbo. Do have to say though, the draw for the next round is really shit. ITV/BBC will be hoping Wrexham win tomorrow because a Wrexham/Newcastle game is probably the one they'll build the round on
Bobfoc
BBC might like a Blackburn/Newcastle match for the Alan Shearer factor.

If Blackburn do win it'll mean Newcastle will have played Blackburn in 4 of our last 10 5th round matches. Which is wild. The last two of which we went on to play at Wembley in (final in 99, semi in 00). Edited January 28 by Twist

METALMAN
I have a very vivid memory of watching Newcastle play Blackburn in the 2000 FA Cup when I was a tiny little baby. Bit of a weird thing to remember but there you go.

Admin Lineker Posted February 2 Author Admin Report Share Posted February 2 Quote All eight FA Cup fifth-round ties will be available to watch live, with Blackburn v Newcastle and Nottingham Forest or Bristol City v Manchester United both on BBC One. Forest and City face a replay on 7 February to decide who hosts United. The fifth-round games are being played in midweek, on the week commencing Monday, 26 February. Bournemouth v Leicester City and Wolves v Brighton will be broadcast on the BBC iPlayer. ITV has the other four games, including non-league Maidstone's trip to either Sheffield Wednesday or Coventry. King Ellis
I'm pleased with tonight's developments, there was no glamour in the idea of going to Villa Park and being beat. Chelsea though, despite their billions of pounds spent and roughly 200 squad players, the Leeds fanbase still took one collective look at their league position and said "Yeah, we can take these guys." so that little glimmer of hope will make things interesting.
