In a scale for the Manchester City fans, I assume it's about perspective. After last season "can we do it all again?" I suppose would be a reason to be pessimistic in the sense that they would realistically feel it won't reach the scale they did then. Realistically you'd assume they'll be confident of a title challenge and so on but getting a treble again? As often happens in great seasons things have to go your way at key times and little things working out. Had more teams been in the frame when Arsenal started to slide as they had the season before, could City have overhauled all of them to win the league, for example? Presumably most fans are expecting a reasonable season, but as good as last years.

There's probably some truth in this. For City fans now, any competition they don't win is considered almost a disaster.

Arsenal: 45 mins into the first game of the season, winning 2-0 comfortably.

Social media: Havertz offers NOTHING to our side

Ffs. I hope I was never this insufferable!

Timber looks like his ACL is gone so there's something to moan about.

Going to be very, very hard to keep this kind of play up when there's the midweek Champions League fixtures and potentially deep Cup runs. Squad depth doesn't feel like it's completely there yet, but this is a fantastic performance.

Sort of start you want. Couple of goals, some stand out performances and points taken from someone who's predicted to challenge top half and potentially Europa places

Think the scoreline is a bit harsh on Villa and the Mings injury doesn't look good at all.

But as you said, I think depth of squads and European football is going to play a part for both sides

Lack of centre back cover will make me nervous if we don't get anyone in. Two injuries and you've got Jamal Lascelles starting.
