England - The Southgate Years

That was daft. England make a sub on 92:00, it takes a minute to do, ref blows to resume play then only plays another 13 seconds!? He added three minutes on! What a plum.

England have just about confirmed a place in the World Cup then, so we can all start hyping them up before they inevitablt get canned in the group stage again.

Does the hype train even exist any more? I don't recall being excited for the Euros.

I really haven't noticed much significant hype at all over the last two or three tournaments. At this stage twelve years ago, there were plenty of domestic pundits who seemed to have already declared England the winners of the 2006 World Cup. Right now, you'd be forgiven for not even knowing that there's going to be a World Cup at the end of the season.

Not yet, but the season will finish in May and then the papers will have about four weeks of time to fill up and Merson et al. will start chirping about PASSION and GRIT and Dave down the local will get a bit overexcited at the thought of 'smashing the frogs and the jerries'.

Is the idea behind this pidgin thing that it's just the normal BBC website but a bit more racist?

No, it is for the people of West Africa that speak pidgin English. Its the lingua franca of that area of the world.
