At this point I'm starting to think a lot of Spanish players have some money on a 0-0.

Danny Murphy, who started the second half by saying that Sweden wouldn't get anything out of the game by carrying on the same strategy as the first half, is now praising their strategy.

He's an absolutely atrocious commentator and pundit. Arrogant and biased beyond belief.

Everything he says belittles the talent of whoever he's discussing, and he acts like he knows better than all the international football managers who have done a lot more than him in their careers.

Almost as if xG is fucking shite.

It's not exactly, but it needs context. Spain had 17 shots (5 of them on goal), so every shot ended up being only .15xG which is not efficient shooting.

Sweden had 4 shots (1 on goal) and they had .34 xG per shot.

The raw xG numbers implies that Spain was 'better', but the context was rather that they took a lot of poor shots and Sweden had more efficient shooting.

Even then xG doesn't say much without the eyeball test, like Morata missing a crucial chance early on.

Like with any stat, taken without context and on paper it says nothing. I agree that way too many people see it as this golden bullet stat that explains football, but football's not something that can be decoded like that.

Yarmolenko scored a beauty two days ago, as did Schick against Scotland. Those would add a tiny bit of xG, yet they still went in because Football isn't a sport that can be decoded and made 'efficient', it's an inherently messy game.

Just ask Spain, who spent 90 minutes dwelling on the ball and set a record on possession% at a major tournament. And they still came away with only a draw.

Derek Rae is really great at making sure he pronounces the names every player correctly. Heard a story about him calling embassies before to make sure he's got the right pronunciation, extremely professional stuff.

But my dude has pronounced Budapest incorrectly multiple times. Can't win em all.

The highlights so far have been Ronaldo's petulant child-like reactions every time someone on his team doesn't do exactly what he wants them to do.

Yeah, he was definitely in a better position for that early Jota (?) chance, but the shooting chance presented itself. Doubt Ronaldo would have passed in that situation.

My personal favourite was when he passed the ball straight to a Hungarian player and shouted at the intended recipient for not getting to it.
