  1. 1. Bob Dylan 2. Frank Sinatra 3. Rage Against the Machine 4. Our Lady Peace 5. Sublime 6. Matthew Good Band 7. James Taylor 8. The New Pornographers 9. System of a Down 10. The Shins Bah, even I hate looking at my list. It's not that I don't like the music listed, but I'm of the opinion that most of the best music ever recorded was done by solo artists anyway (James Taylor, Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra, Tom Waits and so on). (Edited for my own missights.)
  2. This is the first time in a while that I can actually classify something Korn related as "interesting". I'd agree that it's not their best single to date, but it's certainly unique, catchy and, especially in this post-nu-metal age of box-frame glasses and argyle sweaters, harder than prevalent mainstream rock. I look forward to the album.
  3. Things like this are why David Spade's always getting tasered.
  4. I think it will start off as the high scoring and then it will drop back mid to late season when teams have adjusted to the new style.

    Lost - Season 2

Fucking hell, with some fantastic debuts this week ("Arrested Development", "My Name Is Earl", "The Office", "Corner Gas" for Canadians, and while it wasn't perfect "How I Met Your Mother" was also good) I didn't think I'd be saying this, but "Lost" has instantly reclaimed the title of "Best Show on Television". The Locke/Jack thing is the stuff that can fuel seasons worth of good television, but I don't anyone needs to worry about any lack of storylines. They've covered a lot of ground in this first episode, and yet they've still not yet resolved all of the cliffhangers yet, which is fantastic. Good to see this show is still fresh as it was when it debuted.
  6. Apparently this was the least watched premiere of Survivor since the first season, back before the show was a ratings titan. Now, figure in the fact that ABC, NBC, UPN and The WB have all yet to roll out their programming in that timeslot and this could be a rough year for the show, whether it turns around creatively or not. And with ABC now throwing out Alias, The WB throwing out Smallville and UPN throwing out one of the most anticipated shows of the new season, Everybody Hates Chris, the drop off is probably going to be bigger than usual as it seems all 6 networks are now throwing out high profile programming in the timeslot. Looks like MB and company are going to have to rely on the second half of the TV season to bail them out again.
  7. Yeah I'm looking forward to this ever since hearing that she was going to become the first female MC to get 5 mics in The Source. Kim's always been decent, but it sounds like impending imprisonment brings out the best in her.
  8. U.S. Trailer. UK Trailer. Your gushing praise. \/\/\/
  9. I don't know if you can necessarily call these bands "unique", since the power-pop genre isn't exactly new, but The New Pornographers, Sufjan Stevens and The Winks are all really quirky. Actually I'm trying to decide which song is more infectious, the New Pornographers' "The Jessica Numbers" or Sufjan's "Come On! Feel the Illinoise!", both of which come from 2 of the best albums released this year. The Winks released a record last year called "Slippers and Parasol" which wasn't exactly as catchy, but very unique in their own right.

    Piano Songs

Vanessa Carlton - "Papa", "White Houses". Ben Folds - "Fred Jones Part II", "The Luckiest", Zak And Sara". Coldplay - "Trouble", "Everything's Not Lost", "The Scientist", "For You". All three artists generally use a ton of piano in their music, I'm just pointing out the songs that highlight the instrument in the best way.
  11. So, Survivor's 11th installment launched today and... ouch. Maybe it's just the brutal nature of the competitions, or the constraints of having to introduce 18 new people in 60 minutes, but there didn't seem to be any intensity in tonights presentation. The 11 mile trek reward challenge may have seemed a good idea on paper (it should have exposed the weaker Survivors, which is obviously beneficial in the long run), but it didn't play well at all on television. Watching half of the contestants lying around in pain wasn't exactly entertaining either. The second competition, which was very physical but much shorter in duration, just seemed to pale in comparison to the first, and from an early standpoint seemed Yaxha's to win. Then, when Nakum elder Jim pulled a muscle or something, he was voted off. Shock of the century. Terrible episode all in all. Oh, and did I mention that the show features two contestants from Pulau? Yeah, Stephanie Lagrossa and Bobby Jon Drinkard, the final two members of the worst Survivor tribe in history Ulong, were brought back and dropped one each into the tribes. Steph ended up being a decent leader to Yaxha, while Bobby Jon got dehydrated and ended up being useless the rest of the episode. Now I understand why bringing back any of the Koror contestants save Willard would probably just set them up for early elimination due to the threat that they pose, did we really have to bring these two back? They only really looked good because they were playing alongside some of the worst contestants in the show's history, and Stephanie ended up getting herself eliminated at the second vote after the merger. Seems to be an underwhelming "twist". Now I know it's unfair to critique characters at this point, but it's important to note that at this point last season I was already pulling for Tom, Ian and Stephanie. I don't even remember the names of any of these new contestants. I know that there are a couple of overtly effeminate males, a couple of token elderly people, and most notably, 20 white people. There's already numerous reasons to be branding this show "Survivor: Whitewash". Anyway, this wasn't supposed to be so long. I was hoping to foster some discussion, but rant mode clicked in, so forgive me for my rambling and near incoherent tone. So... discuss.

    The O.C

So... episode 2 was really good. This season is taking the show in a completely new direction, and I'm thrilled with it. They're a bit more slapstick with Summer, the adult storylines are a bit less juvenile and, most importantly, they're not counting on Julie Cooper to carry the sleaze torch. It's so easy to point out how easy to hate (and thus incredibly effective) this new "Dean of Discipline" character is (although I think they seemed to go to the punch in the face awfully quickly), but it would be a crime to leave out how hilarious the Taylor Townsend character looks to be. Jeri Ryan was really effective this episode, and with all these things in mind, season 3 is showing one hell of a lot of promise.

    In A Coma

Mr "Everyone Who Makes Any Money Is Selling Out" is releasing a Greatest Hits album? Oh this is too hilarious to be true. Call me when there's a full length MG album coming.
  14. Well I listened to Blind Melon, and I'd assume that it probably came down to someone else listening to the Garden State soundtrack to push the Bonnie Somerville song up.

    The O.C

Did you see "Rainy Day Women"? I thought that was the best episode of the entire series run so far. ←
