  1. ditto. I was wondering what happened to it and I was hoping it wasn't cancelled. Little shocked to see The OC and One Tree Hill in any sort of danger. A lot of people I know love that mindless shit. I'm hoping Veronica Mars comes back. I think he was saying season 4 could be The O.C.'s last. He does list the show as returning for at least one more. OTH I'm a bit surprised at too, but the numbers have been decent considering they've been up against America's Next Top Model, so I think it'll probably get another season. The CW doesn't exactly have a ton of ratings smashes to bring with them.
  2. The way I saw it, Durst noticed that mainstream audiences were tiring of rap rock and dropped it for the most part for RMV. Then he noticed the string of political hits in 2004 and was a year late with The Unquestionable Truth. Call it an "artist" reinventing himself all you want, but I just think it's an "artist" making decisions based on what he thinks will sell the most records.

  4. I don't know why, but I have severe reservations about the quality of this information. I'd stick with an official source like The Futon Critic. Nonetheless, the Upfronts are only like a month away so all this speculation is a little useless. I'd also heard Smackdown as already announced as coming over.
  5. In a refreshing change, the Blue Jays bullpen saved Ted Lilly's ass after he was driven from the game in 2 and a third innings. Of course the Jays putting up 8 runs is a big help, and Gregg "All Heart" Zaun hitting the game winning homerun helps too. This is a team that's gonna put up big runs this year: whether that makes them competitive is another issue but they're definitely going to be fun to watch.
  6. I'm a Leafs fan, but there's no way CBC should be showing special treatment to the Leafs in their broadcasts, for two reasons: 1) The CBC is a national broadcaster and should showcase all of Canada's teams equally, and 2) TSN or Sportsnet would gladly pick up the games anyway. As for the "special treatment" of Darcy Tucker, wasn't he suspended 5 games in 2003 for essentially getting his ass kicked after jumping the Sens bench?
  7. Wait, were Chasing Amy and Dogma not independent because they were bankrolled by Miramax? Or is that list lacking a few of the best indy films of the 90's?
  8. I'd make fun of that crap, but I honestly don't know who the fuck any of them are. "Shake Your Moneymaker" by The Black Crowes with Jimmy Page "A Day in the Life" by Jeff Beck "Too Rolling Stoned" by Robin Trower "War Pigs" by Gov't Mule Damn that's alot of covers I'm listening to...
  9. If the Jays are going to have to get 6 or 7 innings out of their starters to win games, there's going to be a problem. Jays came out hot, Downs gave up 3 over 5 and the relievers gave it away. I've never particularly been a fan of Vinnie Chulk but last year he put up decent numbers. This year's he's been bad in two consecutive appearances and I'm not sure why they didn't go to someone more capable after Downs to stop the D-Rays' momentum. Bottom line: if you get 8 runs, you should be able to beat anyone, much less the Devil Rays.
  10. Well we got whacked around last night, but the Jays outwaited Carlos Silva and beat up on him in the 6th for 4 runs. Chacin did well to get through 6 and 2/3 innings considering how little work he had in Spring Training, and again, the new guys are really contributing. This game Jason Phillips came up big with a single in the sixth, and Overbay also had a big hit. Great way to wrap up the series, and also a great way to rebound from their big loss last night.
  11. I agree. I don't think the guy a few posts up was answered, Burnett is 49-50 career. The talk seems he isn't worth $55 million, but the Blue Jays had to spend the money, and they needed a good pitcher, and Burnett was the top of the market this year. The game was excellent. Alex Rios showed he can hit a home run, if he hits 20 throughout the year I think the organization will be happy. Sucks for Eric Hinske, who by all accounts had a decent spring. In my opinion, if you are keeping four of the five outfielders, Hinske is the one to trade. Catanalotto (sp) was hot at the end of last year and I feel either he or Johnson could be good PH's. I dunno.
  12. Boys came out swinging tonight against one hell of a pitcher. Doc Halladay put on a clinic, and throwing just 88 pitches in seven and two-third innings of work. The new guys played well, but Hillenbrand, Rios and Johnson all had good nights at the plate. Even Aaron Hill, who was the only Jay who failed to get a hit, played really well in the field, and if he continues this, the loss of Orlando Hudson may not be a major issue at second. The only Jay who played poorly was quite predictably Ryan Adams, who's already got his first throwing error at short. Oh how I look forward to the days Johnny Mac gets the start. 1-0 boys, 81 to go for that .500 season. P.S. The atmosphere at the Rogers Center was ELECTRIC. Having been to games during the golden age in the early nineties, I couldn't help but feel a sense of deja vu. Not to say this team is that good, but they certainly captured that energy tonight.
  13. Well from a brief glance at Amazon's CD art, Corey's on the back, and I'm pretty sure he wasn't in the band at the time of MFKR. If he's pictured anywhere it's a pretty safe bet you've got one of the bootlegs.

    Clerks 2

Watch. Be Amazed. Comment. It's hard to say whether the film will match the original, but it sure as hell looks good.
  15. I've got tickets to the home opener on Tuesday. Apparently there's a ceremony to honour both Tom Cheek and Kirby Puckett (the Twins are in town). Classy move, and I hope it's matched with a good game. I'd tend to agree with Biggzy that the odds of the Jays making the post-season are still slim, but you never know what can happen. The Jays have taken a ton of risks and if many of them pay off, it will be a close finish this year. Or at the very least, we should probably break .500.

  17. The only one that really springs to mind is "Not Fade Away", the Angel finale.
  18. Big Momma's House 2 - 4/10 * What can I say about this film? It's not a disaster by any means. It has plenty of heart, and Martin Lawrence certainly knows the role by now. He's complimented by a supporting cast of likeable characters. The problem is that after you put this cast of characters together, what do you do with them? Well, if you're making the sequel to a movie that ran it's course before it ended, not a whole lot. There's a lot of material that's been repackaged from the first film, and the new stuff is generally so nonsensical that it's hard to follow. So Momma's going to find herself all too taken aback by the beautiful women she encounters, and at some point she's going to dance like a 30 something man. She's also going to be a surprisingly good parent, which is odd, considering Malcolm doesn't seem to be so good at it. Who cares, you say, it's a comedy for families. And perhaps some families will enjoy this film. They did flock to see The Cat In the Hat, afterall. It's just not the type of movie that the parents leave as satisfied as their kids almost certainly will. Thumbs down.
  19. Grandmas Boy - 3/10 * A movie so bad it MUST have been from January. Let's count it up, shall we? First we have Allen Covert (who wrote the script and starred), who's been leeching off of Adam Sandler since Going Overboard, and almost certainly would not have got this gig had Sandler's company not bankrolled the film. His next writing gig (his third, after this and Eight Crazy Nights) is Benchwarmers. Approach with caution. Then we have Peter Dante as Dante, who I can only assume is Happy Madison's answer to Jay from Jay and Silent Bob. He does the weed, he has the childish sense of humour only unlike Jay, there's a mainstream filter that renders the character nothing but a hollow knock off. But I suppose his position is safe; he's equally in with the Sandler camp. Then we have bit parts played with sub-par enthusiasm by character actors like Nick Swardson, Joel Moore, Doris Roberts, Shirley Jones, Shirley Kight and Sandler's SNL buddy Kevin Nealon, who's right at home at the bottom of gross out comedy. Oh, and lest we forget, Linda "Velma" Cardellini. How interesting a transition, from a kids movie that HINTS at pot use to an R-rated comedy that seems to offer little else. Or, if you're an art fan, from the winner of 3 Academy Awards to a movie which will almost certainly draw consideration for next years Razzies. Oh, how the marginally successful have fallen. In brief, the jokes are nothing new, the plot goes absolutely nowhere and, like a pubescent fantasy, lacks any discernible conflict. Grow up guys. Thumbs down.
