  1. New early cancellations: Invasion, Freddie, Hope & Faith (ABC), as well as Conviction, and Teachers (NBC). I really enjoyed Freddie as well as Teachers, and while the latter's cancellation comes as no surprise, the former is a big disappointment. Source. Man, the early leaks are out of control this year. Only a matter of hours now until NBC's upfront, where we will learn the fate of Scrubs (said to be the only "bubble" show still with a chance of renewal), as well as the network's summer, fall and winter schedule. Edit:
  2. For fans of "The O.C.", "The Loop" and "The War At Home", some good news. FOX has picked up all three series for next season, with "The Loop" getting a 13 episode commitment. I was certain "The Loop" was a goner, goody for this. Source.
  3. The CW made it official today, 7th Heaven gets another season, or at least a half season of 13 episodes. It's sort of like graduating high school and coming back to hang out with the younger kids next year. They did all this build up about how the end was coming, they ended it in the most over the top of ways, and now they're coming back? It just doesn't sound like a good move, especially considering that the reason for the show's cancellation in the first place was the high production costs. It's highly unlikely that they're going to go DOWN, and with the way they sort of baited and switched on the end this season, they'll probably have alienated at least a few viewers. Where's the financial sense behind this decision?
  4. Ron Maclean: "You know, the Toronto Maple Leafs are his [the Prime Minister's] favourite team." Don Cherry: "It's the only part of Ontario he likes!" Thanks to Warren Kinsella for pointing that out. Even if you're a Tory, that's funny. And I guess it's sort of hockey related. >_>
  5. What oldskool said just made me click into your point, but if the laughs are a result of the GOP's fuck up, and not really anything Colbert did, I fail to see how it's "classic Colbert". It's not even really funny, it's just another pathetic mess up that is The Republican Party in 2006.
  6. I'm not sure that this is exactly a great example of "how often" politicians are able to laugh at someone's satire of them. Canada has the equivalent to this every year, where the leaders essentially take the piss out of each other without any ill will (in fact, all parties involve generally find it funny). And there's a great tradition of presidents appearing on late night talk shows as well as cameos on shows that make fun of them on a weekly basis. I'm not sure I get what you're saying. Are you suggesting Colbert saw this reaction coming before he started, and was just trying to make a point? Or that Colbert was really average and got laughs not by his own virtue but the reaction of the administration? Because one way he's not doing what he was paid to do (basically, entertain these humorless bastards), and the other he just got lucky. Either way, it hardly qualifies as classic Colbert, especially for someone who is so funny in his own element.
  7. In fairness to Tucker Carlson (and I am anything but a fan), he's sort of right when he says that Colbert wasn't that funny. Ballsy, hells yes. But Colbert's opening monologue schtick drawn out over 25 minutes really gets old around halfway through. On The Colbert Report he's doing a sharp satire of Bill O'Reilly and FOX News. At the press correspondent's dinner he was just telling a really long one note joke.
  8. I like both, but the Deftones have such a rich sound that I have to go with them.
  9. Well let's put it this way: all of the movies from the Best Movie category (with the possible exception of King Kong, which I haven't seen) I preferred to Brokeback Mountain, as well as Capote, and the Oscars are supposed to be DEFINITIVE. The MTV Movie Awards are what they are, but at least they don't command the same kind of influence.
  10. 24, Scrubs, How I Met Your Mother, Lost, Smallville, the Trailer Park Boys and a myriad of other shows currently in hiatus (Entourage, Battlestar Galactica, Corner Gas).
  11. Season 2 > Season 1 by a wide margin. Still, it's an awesome show and it sucks I have to wait till October for season 3.
  12. Pre-Bob Rock Era Our Lady Peace Reggie And the Full Effect System Of a Down The New Pornographers
  13. Their MySpace has it. Good song, probably better than anything off the first album.
  14. I agree that Pat Quinn had to go (not necessarily for this year alone), but John Ferguson is a dick for rushing this decision. They could have showed some restraint and not make it seem like such a obvious decision, but I have a feeling that this is Fergie trying to distance himself from his own mess. Quinn ain't a great coach anymore, but he can only work with what you give him. Ferguson was out of touch with the new NHL, and he should take at least equal heat for the way this season turned out.
  15. "Wonderwall" by Oasis "Fire And Rain" by James Taylor "Heart Of Gold" by Neil Young
  16. The hits just keep on coming. Jays take their 3rd straight with a 13-7 win over the White Sox. The win was made possible by the team's red hot bats but *gasp* helped by Vinnie Chulk and Pete Walker's sharp relief work. Vernon Wells' hot start continues with a home run and a base hit to bring his hit streak to 10 games.
  17. Weezer's "Hash Pipe" single having to be changed to "Half Pipe" in the US was pretty ridiculous.
