  1. Out Of Your Mouth - "Music" This isn't even a question. It's the worst song ever made.
  2. Just looking at my Last.fm profile for 2006 songs: The Streets - "When You Wasn't Famous" Christina Aguilera - "Ain't No Other Man" Anti-Flag - "The Press Corpse" The Arctic Monkeys - "I Bet You Look Good On the Dancefloor" Beyonce - "Deja Vu" Gnarls Barkley - "Crazy" RHCP - "Dani California" Sam Roberts - "The Gate" Nelly Furtado - "Maneater" Gnarls Barkley - "Smiley Faces" Not exactly my choices for the BEST songs of the year, but the ones I've listened to the most so far.
  3. I think that the size of his fanbase is irrelevant. If there's an interesting story to be told, and if it's well executed, it'll probably be a success anyway. I highly doubt everyone who went to see Walk the Line was a Johnny Cash, ditto for Ray and Ray Charles. If it's got critical buzz, it'll work. Just probably won't have the same budget as those two films is all.
  4. Great night for Canadians. Good night for fights too. Bonnar-Evans and Goulet-Cummo come off as the most entertaining fights, but MacDonald looked great out there and Silva had a kick ass debut. Damn, I didn't think I'd get this into UFC, but what can I say? It delivers.
  5. Ok. Some of these are arguable, but you could classify albums or bodies of their work as emo. And some of these can be considered emocore, screamo, or whatever the kids are calling it these days. And I'll give you some albums to check out. Lifetime (Hello Bastards) Sunny Day Real Estate (Diary) Saves the Day (Through Being Cool, Sound the Alarm) The Promise Ring (30 Degrees Everywhere) At The Drive In (In Casino Out) Weezer (Pinkerton) Jimmy Eat World (Clarity, Bleed American.) The Get Up Kids (Something To Write Home About) Moneen (Are We Really Happy With Who We Are, The Theory of Harmonial Value) Jets to Brazil (Orange Rhyming Dictionary) Alexisonfire (Alexisonfire) But really me posting this entire list was pointless. Every genre has great bands and every genre has awful bands. Nu-metal, grunge, pop-punk, disco, prog rock, hip-hop, jazz, r&b, garage rock, whatever... emo is the flavor of the month, but soon it'll fade away. Or at least, when the kids grow up.
  6. I hate Brandon Flowers as much as the next guy, but it's not like he's wrong in this particular case. You convince a bunch of tweens that this band is more a way of life than just a band because they identify with the band's manufactured pubescent angst, and they in turn follow every trend you push on them. It's not "dangerous" like Flowers said, but it's not exactly inspiring anybody to be particularly creative.

    Futurama Lives!

I don't really think that major budget cuts are necessary, because the DVD sales on Futurama sets are ridiculous. I don't know if they could cover their costs on DVD alone, but with both first-run and syndication, I'm certain Comedy Central stands to make a bundle off new episodes. Run it with South Park and you've got one hell of a successful hour of cable TV. This is great news, even though I'm constantly getting the feeling that this news has been reported before, like months ago.
  8. I love that these days, the workhorses are usually the GOOD bands. The self-titled debut was good, "Out Of Exile" was awesome, and one can only hope they match that intensity with this record.
  9. Why waste time bitching about what other people choose to do with their money? I will say this: mainstream music is A LOT better than a few years ago, so no, I won't say this is the worst period for music. I also think that history has been kind to many other periods which were, by all accounts of the times, awful. It doesn't help that people are so damn critical and elitist these days. If it's not on Pitchfork it must be bad, right?
  10. I've only been watching Entourage so far (I'm a season and a half behind on Deadwood), but it's been at its best the first two eps. This week's was ridiculously good.
  11. It's not an Askewniverse film, and you can tell that pretty early on. What it is, however, is a really charming family comedy that has as much sharp humour as it does sentimentality. Critics weren't ready to see Kevin Smith doing PG-13 + Bennifer = Bad Reviews. IMO it's not Smith's worst film (I hold it in higher regard than Mallrats), and if you're not looking for the same sort of grossout stoner humour, you'll probably enjoy it.
  12. Yeah, they'll have to film something brief over the summer to explain Jack getting away from his captors. No way they were going to be able to "start" it in China and hope to have Jack play any important part in the season.
  13. Italy already has enough conspiracy theory on their plate, don't they?
  14. The best rule of thumb is that if it's popular, and if it's not Radiohead, pay little mind to their reviews. The indie stuff they're usually good with though.
  15. This announcer (on Sportsnet) is awesome... "We get the feeling that Larsson doesn't agree with the decision. Puffing out his cheeks like a petulant child." Man, T&T came out slow and tensive, but they really picked up towards the end of the half. Still noticeably the lesser team, but hey, it only takes one break.
  16. Eww, ABC's coverage has the colours all fucked up. It's like watching an episode of Alias. In 10 minutes, this game has already entertained me more than the England-Paraguay match, if only for the ref getting taken out. >_>
  17. I love how New Line and the Weinsteins wait until the same week to announce this and the "Seven Samurai" remake. It's like they're trying to piss off Japanese film fans.
  18. First three seasons were great. Season 4 was a mess, and season 5 brought it back to the level of the first three. I watch it, and I can only hope the momentum of this year's finale can be maintained in season 6.
  19. The Brothers Grimm - 4.5/10 On one hand, the humour is reasonably good and the filmmaking is expansive and offbeat. On the other, it's completely predictable and the plot is convoluted. Such is the case for The Brothers Grimm, a film that was finally released after years of delay at just under 2 hours, and probably could have used a bit more. Damon and Ledger play a good comic team, and the film would probably have been better served to use more of their comedic skills as well as director Terry Gilliam's sense of humour. As it is, there's not enough to be enjoyed here and even less to be motivated until the end.

    Plagerism?

Anyone care to guess the mystery laugh?
  21. Top 10 1. Neil Young - "Heart of Gold" 2. Matthew Good Band - "Weapon" 3. Metallica - "One" 4. Radiohead - "Paranoid Android" 5. Leonard Cohen - "Love Calls You By Your Name" 6. Blur - "Beetlebum" 7. Bob Dylan - "I Shall Be Released" 8. Minor Threat - "Straight Edge" 9. A Tribe Called Quest - "Electric Relaxation" 10. Queen - "Killer Queen" Keep Off 1. Nirvana - "Smells Like Teen Spirit" 2. The Beatles - "Hey Jude" 3. Green Day - "Good Riddance (The Time of your Life)" 4. Lordi - "Hard Rock Hallelujah" 5. Bryan Adams - "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)" The bottom 5 are more about the overrated than the bad, for me. Most of the bad songs on the list I assume won't come near making it.
  22. The Jays drop game three of the Bo-Sox series, after taking the first two. It'd be nice to see the boys taking all 3 some time, but a series win's a series win. By the way, has anybody been to a Jays game recently? Until Tuesday I hadn't been to one since the 7th of May (Casey Janssen's fine 1 hit over 7.1 performance), but they've come up with a completely intimidating entrance for BJ Ryan that is pretty much the most awesome thing I've ever seen the Jays production team ever pull off. They have these HUGE flaming animations on all the screens that flare up with "BJ Ryan" flashing, and as Ryan runs out (intimidating enough in itself), Slipknot's "Duality" is playing. It's less a pitching change than an experience.
