1. This feels like an Onion post, but it's not. The Asian Winter Games are headed to Saudi Arabia in 2029.
2. I mean... he was better than Trubisky. That said, I'm not sure I want to throw a rookie QB in against our next four games of Bills, Bucs, Dolphins, Eagles. 1-7 here we come!
3. If we lose at home to the Jets we really need to give up on the season, even if it costs Tomlin his perfect run of wining seasons. We also need to give up on Trubisky, preferably two weeks ago if possible.
4. I didn't mind it too much, the always present danger of going into the wall was fun, watching Russell's gap to his nearest car rise by three seconds a lap, then all of a sudden plummet by 5 seconds a lap was entertaining, and it's always nice to see Checo win. He did keep the win by the way, quite why it took two hours to decide the penalty is baffling.
5. Given the size of the puddles on the track, this race isn't getting started for a long time. And now we start, everyone's on inters. So why didn't it start with everyone on full wets half an hour ago?
6. I've downloaded the trial because I didn't play enough last year to justify an immediate purchase, but I also feel like I'm going to get it at some point because I don't want my 20+ year streak to end on the last FIFA title. Skipped all the tutorials and started FUT straight away (which probably wasn't smart, but I'm on a timer here), Italy based as usual, and it's as if the game knows it's running a tribute as it gave me Buffon in my first pack who was my goalkeeper for over a decade, and Antonio Candreva who scored a 90th minute winner for me when I won my first and only online tournament. Changed my team name to Army Ants 15, so if you're wondering how old FUT is now, it's 15. I got some free packs but quick sold almost all of them immediately to get the money to fill out the rest of the team, highlighted by Vlaovic. Played a squad battle game against the weakest team on World Class and went into half-time 4-3 up, partially because I forgot how to defend in FIFA and it turns out using the defend buttons for NBA2K doesn't work too well. Finished 8-4, Candreva hat-trick, loan player Son scoring twice and various other scorers. Got back to the menu to see 23 completed objectives, 16 of which were stadium/tifo related which was more than a little annoying. I'll try career mode later, hopefully it's got a bit more depth than usual.
7. Max pitting on a pole lap because... fuel issues? Entertainment value? Red Bull obviously need to spend some more money to sort it out. He'll probably win tomorrow anyway.
8. E7 was quite fun, even if it didn't further the plot that much.
9. Cut to Will Buxton in a studio explaining that when a player gets an injury, it means.... ..... ...... He is injured.
10. I have to think it's a more substantial role than a cameo, and that announcing it advance is to get ahead of the inevitable leaked set photos of Jackman in some kind of Wolverine gear*. They'd be able to hide a surprise cameo, and I think Reynolds knows the backlash he'd get for under-delivering after this kind of reveal. *I'd put money on him being in the yellow spandex costume at some point as well.
11. I may have just squealed a noise that I couldn't make by choice if I tried a thousand times.
12. Hooray! The Nations League finals! Who needs the World Cup?!
13. That would be the only saving grace for a Singapore GP. Since the "night race" gimmick wore off, and without Flavio Briatore to create chaos, the Singapore races have a tendency to be Monaco-esque processions.
14. I feel like I've completed mine way too early given that the World Cup doesn't start for another 8 weeks. In a month's time I might see if I can start again somehow.
15. I maintain that Andy Murray is one of the unluckiest players in sporting history, being the 4th best player in an era of 3 of the greatest players that a sport has seen is just unfair. In the last 19 years there have been 75 grand slam tournaments, these four won 65 of them.
16. The decline of Italian goalscoring is epitomised by the lack of goals against the centre back pairing of Dier and Maguire. Hey, there we go. What a first touch that was.
17. Mostly the F1 TV subscription with the Internet Archive of RaceFans.net filling in any full race gaps which F1 TV has (which is annoyingly frequent given they have footage of every race and yet seem reluctant to share it). The internet archive versions are usually the full ITV show, so I got to watch a lot of the legend that is Jim Rosenthal. I started in 1981 as that's when the F1 TV archive kicks in, but didn't start watching full races until the 1986 season. Since then any day that I'm not working or going out I'll watch a race in the morning. It's not always worth the time, but occasionally you get a really exciting race that comes out of nowhere. The only race I didn't watch was US 2005 with the tyre madness, but did watch the pre-race ITV show which was interesting with nobody having any idea what was going to happen. Just like when I was watching as it happened I found it a real struggle to get through 2003-04 with the Ferrari dominance, thankfully this time I at least knew it was going to get better in 2005 and just had to get through it.. I also found a site which has the one-shot qualifying sessions for 2003 which I watched as well, and that cemented my opinion that the one-shot format is the best version of qualifying.
18. I don't know what ESPN were thinking last night. Firstly if you do a double-header why are you picking two home games from the east coast that have to be played at the same time, and secondly, why are you putting the score of the other game on the screen all night to ruin it for anyone wanting to watch the second game afterwards?
19. I'm up to 2006 in my F1 re-watch, and at the opening race in Bahrain Steve Ryder and Mark Blundell were discussing how the calendar was getting too crowded and it would be having a big effect on the teams being away from home for so long. That was an 18 race calendar.
20. Apparently soon to be confirmed: Gasly to Alpine Nyck de Vries to Alpha Tauri.
21. So happy for Son, you could see the relief poor out of him when he scored the first, although that may be because Hojbjerg was liable to kill him for not passing. Leicester's defence was horrific though, 6 might actually flatter them.
22. I felt it was more of a mid-season filler episode than anything too exciting this week, still a lot of fun though. I find it hard to trust Pug because Josh Segarra's psychotic portrayal of Adrian Chase in Arrow is burned into my mind whenever I see him.
23. Red, Silver, Sapphire, Diamond, Black, Black 2, X, Sun, Sword for me. My 6 game streak of red/first games will end because I'm intending to get Violet due to the legendary aesthetic.
