  1. I think Roberts is still sore about not being traded for last season when the asking price really was not that high.
  2. Canada selects 15 for the World Championship The two goaltenders chosen are Pascal Leclaire and Cam Ward, while some of the star players signed up include Shane Doan, Eric Staal and Rick Nash.
  3. Christiano Ronaldo IS a very attractive man, though.
  4. The Western Conference is pretty tight. I think all the series have the potential to go to seven games and they are all very close. Detroit vs. Nashville I am going to pick Detroit. Nashville has been a surprise after losing so many key players in the off-season, but I don't think they have enough to compete against the Wings. Detroit has solid goaltending and a great offence. I say Detroit in 5. San Jose vs. Calgary I think Calgary has had success against San Jose this year and the Sharks are really looking to get out of the first round. If Joe Thornton AND Marleau get going, then the Sharks have this series. I don't think both will though, and that means the Flames can key on whichever one is playing well and shut him down. Kipper and Nabokov are equally amazing, but I like the Calgary defence. I am taking Calgary in 6. Minnesota vs. Colorado I really enjoy when division rivals face off in the playoffs. This one should be good. I think Colorado may be healthy for the first time all year while the Wild have been tremendous playing their system while opening up just a little more to give Gaborik some room to work. I'd take Backstrom over Theodore any day, but the Avalanche have more depth defensively and offensively. I'm taking Colorado in 7, but with Backstrom and Gaborik, the Wild could take the series. Anaheim vs. Dallas Anaheim had a slow start but has turned it around and been very strong recently. Dallas has been good all year. I think Anaheim will take this one in 6, as they are a team more suited to the style of play seen in the playoffs. I prefer their offence to the offence of the Dallas Stars. VOTE: Bill Watters I like Kypreos on Hockey Central on the FAN 590.
  5. The lottery didn't change the order - Tampa got the top spot, LA is second and Toronto is 7th overall in the draft. Still a good spot to be in and it should be a spot to work from if Fletcher wants to move up to get someone higher or sit tight and use that pick.
  6. I'm hoping that some of the teams ahead of us in the draft ignore Kyle Beach due to his "attitude" so Toronto can grab him. I think he is going to be a star.

  8. Not one Rick Roll? Come on!
  9. Frank Thomas ripped a grand slam at the moment I got up to use the bathroom. Bastard.
  10. I'll just look at the first round and then choose the next round when we get to it. Montreal vs. Boston Montreal has to take this one. Boston has no depth, is missing some people, and Tim Thomas/Alex Auld are not #1 goaltenders in my books. Montreal doesn't have the best top line but have a well balanced line-up and bring depth to the table along with a great powerplay and solid (although inexperienced) netminding. I am taking Montreal in 6 simply because Boston will steal one based on their style of play and grab a game due to the inexperienced goaltending of Montreal. Pittsburgh vs. Ottawa Ottawa is no slouch despite the #7 position. Losing Alfie hurts them a ton though, and in the past they have suffered with him out of the line-up. I am picking Pittsburgh to win this series in 5. Washington vs. Philadelphia The closest series in the Eastern Conference if you ask me. Washington is a high powered offence with solid defence, although a weak defence. Philadelphia is a big team with some good scorers too. Biron is a good goaltender and their defence is decent. The big difference will be Ovechkin - will he come out guns blazing for his first taste of playoff hockey? I think he will - and I give the series to Washington in 7. New Jersey vs. New York I don't know a lot about either team except for Lunqvist and Brodeur being pretty good goaltenders. New York underperformed in the season while Jersey did better then expected. I don't really care. Jersey in 6? Whatever. I'll do some Western predictions later.

As a Canadian, saying something bad about Degrassi gives me the liberty to stab you.
  12. Slowed down Jennifer Hedger sounds drunk.
  13. AJ Burnett looked good. He has looked that way for stretches over the last two seasons, so it isn't much to get excited over. A healthy Burnett for a full season would be a huge help to this team and any sort of playoff hopes.
  14. If Ottawa gets kicked out of the playoffs, then that will make this whole horrible season turn into a happy, awesome season. Vesa Toskala will be getting his final start of the year - lets crush them Sens!

Everyone where I am from - and I mean everyone literally - knows Van Halen for "Hot For Teacher", "Panama" and "Right Now" more then for "Jump".
  16. Looking at TSN.ca, it seems like the Leafs will bring back Mats as long as he wants to come back.
  17. I ended up with the 4th overall pick and decided to go for Kyle Beach after Yann Sauve, Drew Doughty and Vitaly Karamnov were drafted 1-2-3. Stamkos wasn't taken and at around 8th overall, I decided to send my two second rounders to Pittsburgh to get Stamkos. The rest of my picks were spent on improving the Sound Tigers. I picked up Jared Staal with my 4th pick in the 3rd round. Kyle Okposo is now ready for the AHL, and just signed a deal. Jeff Tambellini actually led the NHL team in scoring and I hope can keep getting better. Chris Simon was the fan favourite of the year. He is gone now - screw that guy.
  18. In my NHL: Eastside Hockey Manager game, I just finished in last place as the Islanders. No worries - only DiPietro, Witt, Shawn Bates and Jeff Tambellini are returning next season. Everyone is going to hit free agency! I just took a holiday from the start of the game to the playoffs. I don't know why it let me go on though - my team is operating below the salary floor. I am hoping its a decent free agent year. This could really blow up in my face.
  19. Despite the fact that his broken leg could end his career, the Minnesota Wild are still going to offer Kurtis Foster a new contract in the off-season.
  20. Sakic isn't a man. He, like Rob Brind'amour, is a hockey playing robot designed to destroy the world.
  21. 1. What has happened to Roberto Luongo? 2. Montreal, why do you have to be so greedy and hog all the points? Buffalo needs them more then you right now and I'd rather see Buffalo in that final spot then Boston!
  22. I see the Rolen/Glaus trade being pretty equal. We lose some firepower but gain a lot of defence. Do you think Dustin McGowan can Toronto's 2nd or 3rd starter? He has looked fantastic for awhile now.
  23. I still think it's better for Pogge to stay in the AHL and to help the Marlies as they go for the Calder Cup. At least there he will get to continue playing meaningful hockey. The main reason for Raycroft to be brought in and the main reason for Toskala being brought in was to allow Justin Pogge the time to develop in the AHL. The longer he stays with the Marlies - at least for this and next season - the better. That's why Clemmensen, not Pogge, was called up when Toskala was hurt. Also, the Owen Nolan trade was awful. Especially when you consider that he had effectively no impact on the playoffs - and he was brought in the get Toronto over the hump and to the finals in those seasons when they were considered contenders but were just missing that one impact player in the playoffs to push them over the edge. Remember, the Sharks and the Bruins also gave up on Brad Boyes. I know he is just one example among many, but Toronto wasn't the only one to pass up on him.
  24. I am waiting for Steve Simmons to write another article in the Sun saying that Mats is crippled and can't play again like last off-season.
