  1. And man, as an aside on my game, the Twins have become world beaters all of a sudden in June after two months of slightly below .500 ball. Even with Mauer down with a fractured foot, they've won 17 of their last 19. Trevor Plouffe has been been Superman, homering four times in the past five games. Two of those being walk-offs and another that sent the game to extra innings.

    Probably steroids.

  2. I have gone 4-0 up in 2014 with the Mets because I am a boss. (H)

Has anyone tried playing the new leagues or created their own custom leagues yet?

I am playing .500 ball with the Astros in season 2, what did you do today?

Being a total stat whore and going full on Brad Pitt can make anything possible, that includes making the Astros somewhat relevant in under 2 years.

Sure it dipped a little bit in the past 10 games, but I am in the running for proper .500 ball.

Also, lol the Giants and Red Sox suck...

    Just some random stats,

Jason Castro is #6 in the league in OBP with .404 (strike not found)

Castro is also #5 in BB with 41

Nolan Arenado is shared #10 in HR's with 13. I traded Villar for him in the off-season because Villar can't bat for shit and Correa was replacing him at SS anyways...

My best pitchers are Jon Papelbon who has 14 saves in 32 games and has a ERA+ of 227 which is on the same level as his Boston days.

Also Justin Masterson is my #1 pitcher and also leading the league in wins with 10-3

It's not a lot, but I am competing for .500 baseball on a shoestring budget (29th in the MLB)

I sign batters on their ability to get on base, preferring contact and avoiding K's over Homerun ability.

I sign Pitchers on their ability to win games, K/9 is overrated and I prefer guys who simply get consistent outs.

Oh, and fucking work ethic is the bomb, yo. Try to sign hard working, smart player who preferably are also loyal and leaders.

  3. Man, reading through my development update, it's a mixed bag of heartbreak and joy.

Grossman having big hikes at LF, whilst Villar my SS has some painful dips in development.

I really love that aspect of the game, that ratings are constantly fluctuating and are never static, it makes it a real challenge to find good talent and nurture them to good skills. And also increases the odds of signing a bust or a diamond in the rough.

The system is much better compared to FM, where scouts essentially can gauge talent from the first time they see a player.

  4. Split with HeadCheese and this game is pretty damn good. I played out a game and it's like you're in the stadium with the crowd and audbile noises of the game.

Btw, how would a league work with OOTP?

Man even without coaching the games or watching them the game is awesome. Being GM and just working deals and the like is fun in it's own right, trying to micromanage my talented players in the minor leagues trying to put them in the right divisions and help them become better. Having to decide which players you drop and call up and so on.

I'm .378 with the Astros and i'm not even mad, just lost 0-9 to the Tigers giving Scherzer a shutout and I ain't even mad. Just trying to rebuild the Astros is a fun challenge, despite my baseball knowledge not being perfect.

  5. The Baltimore audience was amazing, on what was an amazing fight card. Jon Jones absolutely dominated Glover and put him right back down the ladder, record aint everything.

Also the flying knee was a mindblower, I saw it at the end of watching main prelims and my mind was blown. That's how you make a splash in your debut.

Great show, well worth 4 hours of my time :D

Now here's hoping I win the Prediction league :P

  6. I'm just staying in my 20-25th range for qualifying and races. Have to say its getting a little frustrating but I guess it's a learning process.

Yeah I know how it feels man, but for the most part it's taking the custom races on the chin and try to work on performing in the Rookies because you actually compete against guys on the same level as you.

  7. I totally didn't realise I had 1st pick of the draft, and I sure got myself an awesome pitcher who hopefully becomes the cornerstone of a potential Astros franchise (lol).

Amazing all round potential, scout told me that he's a potential Cy Young award kind of prospect, so I forked over the 7,5M bonus he demanded. Would have been foolish not to.

With my current bullpen and this kid's talent, he has a good chance of being fast-tracked to the majors.

    Edit:

Without there being a lot of great batters in the draft I also picked up this future relief pitcher.

With his lacking stamina I am probably going to make him a closer, and he has some nice movement and some decent pitches. Shit control so that's a negative... but you can't get everything.

After that I got a 1B in the 3rd round who is hit and miss and I doubt he is going to become a major league staple, but he got good work ethic so maybe he can surprise me.

  8. Man, I hardly know what i´m doing right now. I think if I start managing that I will be even more confused.

And is it possible to force the AI to keep pitchers in who are 1 inning away from a shutout? Just had Dallas Keuchel throw a 1-hitter and in the final inning he got replaced and stopping a potential shutout.

  9. So I picked this game up and I have enabled ''GM Mode'' where the AI does the lineups/games and stuff and I just sit back and work the rest of the club.

I foolishly took the Astros, so i'm going to suffer hard.

As i'm slowly getting to grips with the game, I'm wondering. Are there disadvantages to retraining players to certain positions?

Like I got Carlos Correa who is the future star of the team sitting in A-Ball slowly becoming the baseball god he hopefully will soon become. His ''problem'' is that he is a Short-Stop, whilst SS's are awesome I already have Villar at Short who is also going to stick around for the future.

So i'm thinking that whilst Correa is stuck in A-Ball, I can just as easily start giving him positional training so that when he gets the call up he can slot into another position rounding out my lineup out better.

Soo, if I start forcing Correa to play 1st base, will it somehow hurt his development and/or lower the potential of his other skills? Because if not i'm just going to accept the errors and train him to become a tool.

  10. Just watched the qualification of Le Mans, noticed Berober was part of it too. he almost got into the top 20th if some slovakian prat didn't kick him out, big shame man. I got 17th, which is pretty nice for a skill-less driver. Those star drivers are a whole different ballgame though.
