  1. This has been a rather pedestrian second half. England have been coasting and Senegal have lost heart.
  2. I usually associate it with people who aren't exactly complimentary towards women.
  3. You might be right. Given that there's a six-day gap to the next match, burnout might be less of an issue than it could otherwise be.
  4. Do you get cocky now and start taking key players off?
  5. Eight different players have scored for England so far at this World Cup. I don't think that's ever happened before.
  6. I believe Kane is only one goal behind Rooney's record now.
  7. I'm pleased for Kane, but that was also excellent play from Bellingham.
  8. I haven't been impressed with England generally today, but that was a well worked goal. England do have quality in attack.
  9. If you banned gambling advertising here, we'd only have the meerkats and the Go Compare man on a constant loop.
  10. And there would no doubt be some case of mistaken identity that results in Trigger playing in central defence.
  11. I hate that they're also advertising tourism to Saudi Arabia on ITV.
  12. I could see them doing a full-length episode in which they try to sell bootleg alcohol to tourists and then have to flee the Qatari government on a dinghy.
  13. It's less of a suggestion and more a fear. I can just see the FA reasoning that they've both got over a hundred international caps and would therefore know all about passion. You know, the usual rubbish that some like to pretend is a credible substitute for tactical astuteness.
  14. If Southgate were to step down after this World Cup, who would be the most likely person to replace him? If the FA insists on an English manager again, they almost certainly won't be able to tempt Eddie Howe or Graham Potter away from their current jobs. I can imagine them going for Steven Gerrard or Frank Lampard, which doesn't seem very exciting. There seems to be this extreme desire for the marquee names to be all that matter. It's always "Ronaldo's Portugal" and "Messi's Argentina". They're great players, but they also can't win a tournament without a decent team around them. It's like when people insist that Maradona single-handedly won the World Cup in 1986. Yes, he was outstanding, but it wasn't as if his teammates were all blokes they picked up at the pub.
  15. Mbappe will be a handful for Senegal's defence.
  16. You really shouldn't be giving Mbappe that kind of space.
  17. I suppose, for me, it's like seeing a student who constantly gets top grades, plays several musical instruments and captains all the sports teams, but then doesn't get the main role in the school play. You can't really feel as sorry for them as you would for a socially awkward child whose only passion is acting.
  18. I don't want to be patronising, but I can't imagine I'd be all that devastated by this if I were American. Football is the fifth most popular sport in the country and the national team is still reasonably competitive against teams representing countries that live and breathe the sport. Most other nations' fifth sports probably don't even have professional teams.
  19. I have this picture in my mind of the fan reaction to an American World Cup win being like if England won it, only even worse.
  20. I really think USA have been lacking a good end product at this tournament. They only scored a total of two goals against teams that England put nine past. For all the corners they had against England, they never looked like scoring.
  21. I think The Midnight Club was very good at certain points, but not consistently so. The format has its strengths and weaknesses and the characters are generally quite engaging, and it generally did a good job of handling the emotions of dealing with terminal illness sensitively. I think the biggest issue I had was that all the plot points were telegraphed very early on. Predictability isn't a problem in and of itself, but this particular story sometimes felt as if it was giving itself too much credit for big reveals the viewer had worked out hours previously.
