  1. He was. He also claimed that he was being considered for the Liverpool job before Benitez got it.
  2. From what I can gather, he was holding out for a big job after he left West Ham, but nothing came along that he considered worth going for. The longer he was out of the game, the less appealing he probably became to potential employers. His managerial record, albeit with only two clubs, was actually very good. He took Charlton to the Premier League and kept them there for several years, a status they're miles off now. He also saved West Ham from relegation before guiding them to a top-half finish the following season.
  3. I remember when he also said that he could have done just as well as Solskjaer initially did at Man United.
  4. Reading have sacked Paul Ince. It's amazing how many jobs he's had off the back of one decent season at MK Dons.
  5. That's an absolute cash bonanza. Someone else's mistake has earned him more money than he was ever going to make in his career otherwise.
  6. I think Notts being at League One level is a big stretch. Macaulay Langstaff's goals have made a big difference, but this is still largely the same squad that came fifth last season. Take out Langstaff and Rodrigues and they're a lot less dangerous.
  7. Capcom has added microtransactions to the Resident Evil 4 remake's new Mercenaries mode. I have no doubt that the decision to wait until shortly after all the positive reviews came in is completely by design.
  8. It's why you really don't want to get relegated from League Two. The best few teams in the National League are almost always stronger than the worst few teams in League Two, but having only two promoted teams means that some decent sides can spend ages trying to get out. It was even more difficult in the days of only one promotion place.
  9. A few Wrexham fans were singing, "Jason's in a box," in reference to the recent death of Notts CEO Jason Turner. It's a shame that that sort of thing can tarnish a fun match. While I didn't like seeing Notts lose, it was an unexpected opportunity anyway. Wrexham's current squad ought to be contending for League Two promotion, let alone National League. The playoffs are going to be nerve-wracking because that's the stage Notts have fallen during the last three seasons.
  10. How ever will people avoid accidentally buying Pokemon cards instead of energy drink now?
  11. I should have said it was "another" young English manager.
  12. It looks as though Sheffield United will join them. Unless something changes, that will be a young English manager in the Premier League, which is a good thing.
  13. I read that PSVR 2 uses eye-tracking and blurs out areas of the screen you aren't looking at to save on graphical demands. In theory, that should both boost visual fidelity and combat motion sickness. Unfortunately, the headset is more expensive than the PS5 itself, which is very much the state of affair for VR in general. At the moment, VR caters predominantly to a small number of enthusiasts because of the price and technical demands. Unless companies make significant strides towards making them more comfortable and easier to use, there's always going to be a barrier stopping it from becoming mainstream. The Meta Quest is a good start. It's wireless and thus the easiest big-name set to use, as well as being a bit cheaper than its competitors. Still, it's a big, clunky piece of kit that most people aren't going to want to wear for long periods of time. Ideally, they would hold off on major graphical improvements and keep making smaller and lighter headsets, but that doesn't seem to be in their plans.
  14. Wrexham's defeat today makes Monday's showdown spicier. If I didn't know better, I'd say that they were engineering an exciting finale for the next documentary. Honestly, I don't see Notts beating them away from home, but it makes me happy that they're still in contention against a club that could probably push for League Two promotion already.
  15. I always thought Group E culture was outdated and sexist.
  16. I think that if you're willing to pre-order something way before any significant information is released, you probably deserve what you get.
  17. Eddie Howe deserves a lot of credit. Newcastle are challenging for Champions League football and they haven't even brought in especially high-profile players yet.
  18. According to Variety, HBO is considering making a series focusing on Aegon's conquest. It's not surprising as, like with House of the Dragon, the whole plot is already laid out. It would surely have to be years away, though. I'm hoping they don't feel as though they absolutely have to have dragons in all their Game of Thrones spinoffs. Obviously, this particular one has to have them, but I think they could get a lot of mileage out of a series on the life of Aerys II. That wouldn't have any dragons, direwolves or White Walkers, which I'd prefer. And yes, I do realise how odd it is that the fantasy elements are my least favourite part of a fantasy story.
  19. I saw an online recap that said the first two episodes of this Succession series were among the weakest the show has had. I seriously have no idea how they came to that conclusion.
  20. Sounds like a comfortable win for AJ, but not a performance that should worry the rest of the division. A fight with Fury would still make a mountain of cash, even without the added appeal of the undisputed championship, but I think AJ would be the definite underdog.
  21. I hear Busted are being supported by Hanson. That's a far bigger deal.
  22. I was right to always believe in its soul.
  23. I think it's for the best. Developers and publishers had to pay to show their games and the ESA is a poorly run organisation, as evidenced by the time they leaked the personal details of all E3 2019 attendees. Smaller games also tended to be either pushed to one side or lost in the avalanche of big-budget game reveals. In the last couple of years, most publishers have moved towards a system of showing games set for release in the near-ish future, rather than spaffing out dozens of CG trailers for games that haven't even entered development yet. It might generate fewer talking points, but it's more focused and easier to digest. While I miss seeing the on-stage gaffes and ill-judged celebrity cameos that made E3 fun to laugh at, I'm glad that, Game Awards aside, we can now watch reveal showcases without all the whooping and whistling from the attendees.
  24. What's the main selling point of Ted Lasso? By the clips I've seen, it looks like a crap comedy about an American who doesn't understand football in England ("Sheffield Wednesday? But they play on Saturday!"). I'm sure there must be more to it than that.
  25. I'll put this in spoilers in case people want to go into the game without knowing anything.
