  1. You'd think that next year's World Cup will be Ronaldo's last major tournament.
  2. I'd be happy to see Belgium win the tournament, but it would be a difficult ask now.
  3. The bottom half of the draw looks extra interesting now. Germany are the only former winners left, and most of their fans would be pleasantly surprised to make the final.
  4. I don't think I'd agree with that. They've reached a World Cup final and a few major semi-finals since 1992.
  5. This is some serious underachievement by the Netherlands since 2014. Two unsuccessful qualification attempts and a defeat in the Round of 16 isn't what you'd expect for a team with these players.
  6. I still think Italy will win this.
  7. It's also the narrative that England/Germany is a massive two-way rivalry. The way some English pundits tell it, you'd think that all Germans spend every day mourning about the 1966 result when they actually don't give a toss. It seems every nation in Europe claims to be Germany's biggest rival.
  8. Germany was the opponent I least wanted England to play. Now we'll have to endure more World War II jingoism and Brexit codswallop in the build-up.
  9. Finally, a chance to avenge the 7-1 defeat in 1954.
  10. So, as it stands, we're looking at England v France.
  11. I suppose it will be interesting to see how well Sutton do in League Two. There are usually several National League sides better than the bottom few League Two teams, so I doubt relegation will be likely. I wouldn't have said that they were the best team in the National League on paper, but they were consistent when their rival teams weren't. Like Harrogate this year, they'll also have to replace their pitch to conform with EFL rules. You'd expect Sunderland to be big contenders in League One, but we've also been saying that for the last three years. I can see Sheffield Wednesday getting promoted as well, and I wonder if a team like Oxford might sneak through in the playoffs. Dull as it sounds, I'd predict Fulham and West Brom to seal automatic promotion from the Championship. I wonder if Barnsley can put forward another promotion push as well. Seeing how well Forest can start after a full summer under Chris Hughton is what interests me the most.
  12. I think Mind is a good charity and it's good to see it supported. If I'm being cynical, though, I could guess that there's an element of "See? We're good guys now!" from three of the European Super League teams.
  13. Worms Rumble has surprisingly gone onto Game Pass at launch.
  14. I think Foden's absence was partly down to the fact that he had a yellow card in a previous match and Southgate didn't want to risk a future suspension. That's unless the yellow cards get wiped in the knockout stages, in which case I don't know.
  15. That's three clean sheets for England. It has more to do with their opponents missing chances, but it's a nice statistic nevertheless.
  16. That would have been a really poor goal for the Czech Republic to concede.
  17. And now Sancho gets his seven minutes to shine.
  18. That Notts County loan spell obviously served McGregor well.
  19. If the last match was any guide, hitting the post early on will mean creating no good chances for the rest of the game.
  20. I do agree, although I wouldn't be so confident about them beating a so-called "lesser" team in the next round anyway.
  21. Scotland was a proper enough test.
  22. Here's some nice correspondence between Nintendo and a young fan:
