  1. "Redemption Song" Johnny Cash w/Joe Strummer

"Crash Diet" by Guns N Roses (?, if anyone knows the history behind this song, please share)

"Shorty Gonna Be A Thug" by 2Pac

"Dani California" by Red Hot Chili Peppers

    "20th Century Boy" by T.Rex

"No Wonderwall Diggity" Mashup (Oasis/Whoever did that No Diggity song)

  2. I know 'American Pie', but I also find it to be amongst the most annoying and overrated songs ever written. It's shit.

It's been bastardized a bit since, but I feel like people should know 'Rebel Yell'. 'Roadhouse Blues' too.

  3. I don't know if this one goes here or in Computing, but now that I am purchasing a notebook better designed for gaming than my current one, I plan to try the PC variations of console games more often. I'll still buy more games for console, of course, but the game I want to try on PC first will probably be Madden 2007.

The only problem is getting a USB game pad. I've never had one before and am not sure what brands are best, etc. Being a Sony type of fella, i'd prefer something similar in shape and layout to a PS2 controller. Cordless controllers are also an option, as long as they aren't outrageously overpriced, but i'd like to hear from people who have used them if it's really very beneficial. (My thought is that since I am playing it on the PC, I would obviously be much closer to the screen than playing it on my television, and thus the need for a wireless controller is kind of eliminated.)

  4. Megadeth

    My Chemical Romance

    The Misfits

    Coheed and Cambria

    Trivium

    AFI

    Shakira

    Velvet Revolver

    Poison

    Slayer

    The Clash

    Mindless Self Indulgence

    Avenged Sevenfold

That's just what i've listened to recently, really, but it'll do.

  5. My first rock band was AC/DC, followed soon by Motley Crue, but neither of which have had any profound influence on my outside of that. Nikki Sixx IS mighty cool, though.

Biggest influence... eh, Layne Staley was the first vocalist I ever really admired and that's what got me into that. Then there's Dave Mustaine, who will always and forever be my favorite guitarist, and the reason I even play guitar today. Kerry King is a close second on that, but not so much for being supremely talented as for just being a neat guy. He gave some lessons for a couple days at a place in Indy and I got to meet him, although I wasn't much into my guitar at the time, but that was fun.

There's so many more, but those three sort of represent phases of my growth in musical taste, so they work well.

  6. You really can't have any AFI on the list if you don't grab their cover of My Michelle, it's really, really, superb.

I'm too lazy to quote it, but are you sure that Come on Eileen cover isn't No Doubt? It sounds a lot like Gwen to me, which I almost never find to be the case in mislabeled cover songs.

  7. Nobody's love for a band is built upon or maintained by an image.

How do you know? Have you asked every single music fan on earth? No, that's impossible. I guarantee you some fans' interest in a certain band was sparked by image.

  8. I think Every Time I Die said it best when they were talking about bands like Avenged Sevenfold:

"The kids see bands like Avenged Sevenfold come out with their mascara, and good for them. It's going to sound like shittalking, but they need that to keep their fans. If their music can't back them up then they need something to keep image, and that something is image. The problem is, that we see more and more people choosing image over music... and it frightens bands like us who are trying to be genuine."

  9. Admittedly, I only skimmed the post, but I think I grasp the idea of what you were saying.

I tend to think that there are more sheeps on the side of "Band A was hugely popular but only because of the magazines and media, they totally suck and are the worst band ever and their tour bus should probably just explode with them in it." than sheeps who hop on a band's bandwagon. I find that a large portion of the fanbase for the poppy "current" type bands still like the music long after it's no longer popular, and therefore I can hardly consider them sheep. Most likely, they're only getting exposed to the bands that are current and popular, and so it only seems like they like every popular band, when in fact they are still picking and choosing what they like. If that makes sense. It's the people who turn completely against a band the second they become huge hits just to prove their vast knowledge of unknown bands that I find to be more sheeplike.

  10. In my mind, it's no different than when a male tries to sing to a piano. Female vocalists in rock bands have to try harder to make a great song, but on the other hand, when they do succeed I find the songs more extraordinary than a man could possibly have performed them.
